The sacredness of Mecca

The Arabian city of mecca is home to one of the largest gatherings of people of the Islamic faith. Mecca is sacred because the prophet Muhammad was said to have been born there and rose into heaven from the city of Mecca. Mecca is also sacred for its pilgrimages. There are two different types of pilgrimages the Hajj and the Umrah. The Hajj is a big gathering where people of the Islamic faith meet in the city of mecca, the Hajj is also mandatory to go to if you are Muslim. The Umrah is like the Hajj but its recommended if you read from the Quran.

History of Mecca

Mecca goes back to the time of Abraham (according to Islamic tradition). The city was founded by Ishmael who built the Kaaba. The prophet Muhammad had many religious conquests in the city. The prophet Muhammad had the very first pilgrimage in the city in 628 AD. Because of this Mecca has become one of the biggest cities for the Islamic faith.

Mecca is a middle eastern city that isn't that far from the red sea. Mecca is in a very hot and dry climate and is surrounded by mountains and rolling hills. Mecca is one of the most important places to the people of the Islamic faith. The people that live in Mecca are mostly Muslim. Mecca is also where the Hajj takes place at the center of the city. The center where the Hajj takes place is very sacred.

Hajj

The Hajj is an Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca. A mandatory religious duty. Associated with the Prophet Mohammed. One of the largest gatherings in the world. This goes back thousands of years ago.

Religion

Birth place of the prophet Mohammed. One of the biggest cities for the Islamic faith. Also considered the Holiest city (its sort of like an Islamic Vatican). It has been modernized over the years. Religions have changed throughout the cities history because its been taken over so many times.

Mosques

A Mosque is a meeting place where people of the Islamic faith come to pray and Islamic people pray on Fridays. Mosques are at the center of the towns. They fulfill more duties than just praying.
