Lee County High Science Teachers Partner with NC State
The following Lee County Schools science teachers are participating in a three week professional development institute on Modeling instruction: Samuel Lahr (BSA), Rachel Cohen (SLHS), Justin Messier (SLHS), Stephen Roman (LCHS)
The three week Modeling Institute runs from July 10th through July 27th at NC State. This intensive professional development experience provides teachers with instruction in the pedagogy of the Modeling approach, and allows them to experience Modeling from the student's perspective. Modeling is an approach to science teaching rooted in inquiry and constructivist philosophies. Teachers learn how to actively engage students in the learning process and facilitate their construction of the "Big Ideas" in science.
Lee County is one of the partner districts for the Modeling project; these teachers will join other Lee County Schools teachers who have previously received training in the Modeling approach. This will allow for increased collaboration in the district. We are excited about this professional development experience and grateful to the Lee County School administration for supporting our efforts.
