Message from Mrs. Berntsen

Dear Families,

We hope you had a restful and restorative Thanksgiving holiday with your loved ones. Welcome back to the nutty time that spans Thanksgiving break to winter break!

This is the last week to complete the Learning Model Registration Form that was sent out on November 17th. Please complete this ASAP as we are already looking at the changes requested and working on our plans to support those requests.

I am hosting another Coffee with Krista this Friday, December 4th. Click the image below for the Zoom link to join our chat! Also, make-up picture day is coming on December 15th - if you are a virtual student and would like to get your school pictures taken, please call our front office to schedule an appointment on that day.

Learning Model Selection - 11/17-12/4

On Tuesday, November 17th the district sent all parents an email with a survey to choose a new learning model for the second half of the year. The email came from “VistaUSD Forms” and contained a link for you to complete the survey. All parents must respond to this survey by December 4th whether you choose to change your learning model or keep it the same. The choice you make at this survey will determine what learning model your child is in for the remainder of the school year until June.

  • If you did not receive this email, click the image below to see the text of the email and get the link to the registration survey. Please also check your email address in Parent Portal to be sure it is entered correctly.

We cannot stress it enough - this form must be filled out for every child separately as soon as possible. If you attempted to take the survey and experienced a glitch, this has been resolved and you should be able to complete the survey now.

This is a decision that we ask that you make thoughtfully and carefully as it impacts teachers and classroom composition for the remainder of the year. Please note:

  • Our AM/PM program is currently full and cannot accept new students to the program.
  • If there are significant changes to learning model selections, your child’s teacher may change whether or not you choose a different learning model.
  • Classic classes will continue to operate at up to full capacity, and we will continue to operate with the same procedures we have been using since October 20th.

We anticipate we will communicate teacher assignments on December 18th before we leave on Winter Break. We will not be adjusting learning models after the December 4th survey closing date, so please be sure to choose the model you want when completing that survey.

We realize this creates many unknowns, and we know that any disruption for students is not ideal. Unfortunately, we will not be able to determine classroom composition or whether teachers will be changing learning models until we have the responses from all of our families. We are committed to getting information back to you as soon as we possibly can after making thoughtful and careful decisions about any changes that have to be made.

Covid-19 Decision Tree

We want to give a THANK YOU to all of the parents who have supported us in keeping Lake a healthy and safe school! We appreciate you letting us know when your students have symptoms, keeping them home, and sharing test results with us. Your efforts to keep our school healthy are greatly appreciated and have helped us keep things running smoothly.

Below is a copy of the County Decision Tree we are using to guide our response to students or staff exhibiting symptoms, coming in close contact with a person who has tested positive, or testing positive themselves. Please review this and let us know if you have any questions!

As a reminder, anyone can get a FREE Covid test at the Linda Rhoades Community Center on South Santa Fe in Vista. The center is open 8:30-5:30 7 days a week, and those who have tested there have reported it to be a quick, orderly, easy process.

La-la-la-la-LAKE! A musical moment with Mrs. Corso

Dolphtones, our after school choir for 3rd- 5th graders that meets virtually on Zoom every Thursday after school, has been busy preparing a song for our first virtual choir performance piece to be distributed just in time for the holidays! Mrs. Corso is very proud of their independent and hard work keeping choral music alive during this time. Dolphtone recordings are due November 30th! Be on the lookout for our 1st Piece in Mid December! Yay Dolphtones!

3rd & 4th Virtual & Classic- It’s time to WASH those recorders! They can simply be taken apart and thrown in the dishwasher. Top rack is best. Thanks!
