Fun Day Waiver

Please check your student’s folder for our Fun Day waiver. In order for your student to participate in the inflatable portion of the day and also consume the provided snacks, the waiver must be signed by a parent or guardian in advance of Fun Day. We ask that all waivers be returned by May 19th so students are able to participate in all activities. As always, many volunteers are needed to ensure the success of this day for our students! Board approved volunteers may sign up in Konstella or reach out to Loren Seamans at Loren.seamans@gmail.com

Standards Based Grading

The Methacton School District uses a standards-based grading system for students in grades K-4. This system helps us more accurately measure students’ mastery of PA Core Academic Standards in all subjects. The elementary report cards have been revised to reflect the changes to the state standards and Methacton’s curricula. The goal of this approach to reporting is to provide parents, students, and teachers with a detailed picture of what students know and are able to demonstrate. The information provided on the report card encourages dialogue about areas of strength and need, and how our students can continue to grow academically.

This article, Seven Reasons for Standards-Based Grading, explains more about standards-based grading.

As your child’s teacher explained during our Back-to-School night, I CAN statements have been developed to share with you what skills your child is being assessed on and the expectation of mastery for each trimester. The I CAN statements are listed on our MSD Family Center.

Counselor's Corner

Children develop many skills at different rates. Knowing the difference between fantasy and reality is a difficult concept to teach and children may not understand this idea until they are between the ages of 5-8. Characters such as Huggy Wuggy and Kissy Missy may look fun and have cute names that children may enjoy, but they were developed for adult gaming entertainment. The content and characters are not appropriate for children nor are something that is appropriate to be discussed or played in school. For more information about these characters, check online for assorted articles. Lori Shaw, School Counselor LShaw@methacton.org 610-489-5000 X41207
