Congratulations Section/Students of the Week!

This week we are recognizing the Honors Band Saxophone section - they are passing off their music left and right and really working hard in class and in sectionals every day!

We are also recognizing Deon Jones (beginner trombone) and Nathan Finley (Wind Symphony trumpet). Deon has been practicing non-stop before school for weeks and has displayed a great attitude and work ethic. We love having him in band this year! Nathan was the first Wind Symphony member to pass off all of his scales and All-Region music and has gone out of his way to be helpful before school every day this week. He is leading by example and we are so proud of him!


Practice-a-Thon Kicked Off!!!

Our big fundraiser is officially kicked off! We are doing a Practice-a-Thon and will be collecting donations for students dedicating part of their evening on October 21st to practicing during our fundraiser party. Each student has received a packet of information explaining ALL of the fundraiser details (the packet can be found at this link). This year we are partnering with 99Pledges to be able to accept credit card donations as well. Parents - you should have received an email from 99Pledges inviting you to your student's individual fundraiser page. You can share it with friends and family across the country to help support our program and provide fun musical opportunities for our kids. *If you did not receive your email invitation, please check your spam folder or contact us to help you.*

Practice-a-Thon Party Donations and Chaperones

We need your help!

Our Practice-a-Thon is the biggest fundraiser we do all year and it is an incredible night of fun for our students. We strive to be frugal with our spending so the donations from the fundraiser can go to needed items like new instruments, cases, and music stands, instead of funding the party. This is why we are asking parents to donate supplies for the party. We need snack and drink donations - you can use this link to sign up to donate those items. We also need chaperones to help supervise on the night of the party and to help with setup and tear down. If you'd like to help chaperone the party on October 21st, please sign up using the volunteer tab in Charms. You can watch this video if you need guidance on volunteering in Charms.

We also need prize donations. We will fill a trophy case with prizes that students can win. If you have any new, unused items that would make good prizes, or small gift cards, candy, etc., we would love to take them off your hands! Please send any prize donations with your student before October 19th.

Beginner Band Fall Concert

Thursday, Oct. 6th, 6pm

The Beginner Band Fall Showcase Concert is coming up soon! This is a required performance for our Beginner Band students. They will stay after school on the day of the concert to rehearse together, eat a small snack, and be ready for the performance to start at 6:00pm. Parents will enter directly through the large gym doors on the front right side of the school. Students will wear jeans (or dark pants - no joggers or sweats) with their 22-23 band t-shirt.

Last Week to Order Decals/Yard Signs

We will be taking orders for yard signs and car decals from now until September 30th. We will put the charge for the orders in each student's Charms account after receiving the order form. You have until October 21st to complete the payment for the orders. Any orders that have not been paid for by October 21st will be cancelled. Expected delivery of the car decals and yard signs is early November.

Repeat Information

Eligibility Information

Progress report grades were due on Friday, September 16th at the end of school and locked on Sunday, September 18th. If your student failed a class on this progress report, they will lose their eligibility Friday, September 23rd at the end of the school day. We will already contacted Wind Symphony parents if your student lost their eligibility. We will contact Honors and Symphonic Band parents next week if this applies to you. Please continue having them attend ALL band events until you hear from us.
Beginner Band students do not have any events this semester that would be effected by eligibility. This becomes a very important issue in the spring semester for those students.

Switching to BAND app over Remind

Because our band has grown so big, we can no longer use Remind. We have reached the maximum participants in multiple classes and do not have space for more unless we upgrade our account (which costs more than we wish to spend). We will be switching messaging services to the BAND app (which the Sachse HS band also uses) to align our cluster. Please sign up for the appropriate class(es) for your student. We will NO LONGER be using Remind, so if you were just signed up for band, you will not need that app/number any longer. Thanks for understanding!

Band Fees Now Past Due

If you have not taken care of your fall semester band fee or your first payment if you are splitting the fee over 6 months, that payment is due by September 16th. We are already spending band fees on festival registrations, t-shirts, and more and truly appreciate you making that first payment. If you are having financial difficulties, please reach out to us so we can help you!

Band t-shirts will be delivered next week and we will be unable to give any student a shirt who has not submitted their first band fee payment of a minimum of $10.

REMINDER - Advanced Band Supply List

If you missed our Advanced Band supply list at the end of last year, you can see the needed items at this link. We will be using the Foundations for Superior Performance book in all advanced band classes this year. The flip folder will also be needed before the first performance (September 19th for ALL Advanced Band students). Many of the items listed can be purchased at any of our recommended music stores, and possibly even cheaper there. We made the supply list with links to Amazon for ease, but feel free to purchase the supplies wherever you would like!

Band Fees

Because our school band budget is so small, we have to charge a band fee so that we can provide the best music education experience for all our band students. This band fee covers all instructional materials (band binder and all its contents), band shirt, contest entry fees, solo accompanist fees, performance music, music theory subscription, transportation, meals before performances, incentive days, and so much more. We set up our band fees to be collected up front (or split into payments), so that we are not constantly asking for $5 here, $7 there, etc.

This year, you can pay band fees through cash or check (made out to Hudson Band Boosters), Paypal through Charms (watch this video to walk you through the Charms system), and for the first time - credit card through the band website. Visit the band website and enter the password HawkBD2223 to enter the secure page and pay online. Please consider adding the optional donation to your cart to cover the credit card fees we incur using this convenient service.

If you have a financial hardship, please communicate with us so we can help you. We never want a student to be unable to participate due to finances and will do everything we can to work with your family and ensure your student is included.

Private Lessons Filling Up

Our private teachers are THE BEST and their schedules are starting to fill up. If you are going to sign up for private lessons, DON'T WAIT - TURN IN THE ENROLLMENT FORM ASAP.

The single biggest investment you can make in your student's musical advancement is signing them up for private lessons. Return the private lesson enrollment form to get your student started ASAP. Lessons are $20 each week and the fee is paid directly to the instructor.
