Whole Student Tidbit of the Week
I know what some of you were thinking...yeah, this stuff is great for most of my kids, but how about the ones that don't care about school?
I want you to imagine that student in your class who doesn't seem to give a flip about school.
You know, that one who doesn't pass any of his/her classes and doesn't seem to care. The one who you struggle to connect with and motivate and you have thought about giving up on...That student (or one very similar to the one you are thinking about) wrote this last week in one of OUR English classes at LVHS (true story):
"School is enjoyable because it's a routine every day. You go and it's not going to change; a safe spot for me. Every day you get to see your friends and have a good laugh. For me, I like discipline that I get from teachers because it makes me feel like someone cares about me. At home, my mom lets me do whatever and it feels like she gave up on me but teachers don't give up. I know it's their job though, so I try not to get close to them because at the end of the day they go home to their real families. I guess school gives me hope."
Often times those students who don't seem to care about school need us for reasons other than academics. Those are exactly the students who need our help with self-management, social skills, and emotional regulation.
This is the time of the year that it is easy to think about giving up on those students who are hard....you've tried for 10 weeks to get through to them. I get it, I've been there.
I thought this writing was a great reminder for us that the students who act like they need us the least really need us the most. Please. Don't. Give. Up.
Have you done your Tier 3 feedback forms for the meetings tomorrow? If not, our first meeting starts at 8. We need that documentation to share with parents!
Club or UIL Academic Sponsor?
Please add your meeting time to this schedule so we know who has what and when -

Students will need to have passes to leave advisory to go to a club. If we can't get this organized and we end up having a lot of students wandering the hallways, we will have to go back to clubs only on Fridays. :(
Oldies but goodies...
Read this- put in zeroes for missing work
Please be sure to enter zeroes as they happen. You will also notice that students are often quicker to turn in their late assignments when there is a zero as a placeholder instead of an X.
Of course, when they turn in the assignment late, you can change it (Stu wanted me to put that part in there in case you were confused).
Thank you!!!!
Does the re-do policy apply to nine weeks tests?
However, remember, they need to submit the re-do form within 2 days of receiving their posted grade.
That might mean you have to turn in an incomplete for them and then they have until the following Friday at 4:00 pm to update the grade.
FIRST 15, LAST 15 MINUTES OF CLASS ARE A NO FLY ZONE. DON'T ALLOW STUDENTS TO LEAVE YOUR CLASS DURING THESE TIMES. FIRST 5, LAST 5 DURING ADVISORY.
Pep Rally Schedule and Theme Days
Advisory Changes Protocol
If you would like to make a change to a student in your advisory, you need to send an email requesting the change to Mrs. Huerta and include the teacher who is the current advisory teacher of the student.
That way everyone is in the loop.
If you don't do it this way, Mrs. Huerta will send the email back to you!
check this out! Students must complete this form to retest/redo!
