Week Ahead @Southview
Week of November 4th-November 8th, 2019
Indigenous Education Month
Kwey kwey, She:kon, Taanshi, Greetings, (pronounced Kway, kway, Say go, Tawn shee)
The Limestone Distict School Board area is home to over 7000 First Nations, Métis and Inuit people. It is the traditional homeland of the Anishinaabe (pronounced Ah nish nah bay) and the Haudenosaunee (pronounced Ho den oh show nay). It is also home to Métis, Inuit and First Nations peoples from across Canada. We believe that all students should have an understanding of the distinct cultures, traditions, and histories of First Nations, Métis and Inuit and we highlight this throughout the month of November during Indigenous Education Month, as well as embedding this throughout our year. Throughout this month we will be sharing announcements and using a variety of resources in classrooms that will teach students about the Indigenous people of this area. We are collaborating with local Knowledge Keepers to help guide our learning around the Haudenosaunee land on which Southview Public School is built on. As we move forward in our Call to Action, we hope to embrace a whole school approach to "Positive Mind, Peace, and Inner Peace" as we learn more about the land on which we live, work, and play.
Southview/McDonald's Night Out! I'm lovin' it!
Remembrance Day 2019
Families are welcome to join us in the gym at 10:30am. If there are any military family members who would like to participate in this year's Remembrance Day Ceremony, please contact us at the office. We are also looking forward to welcoming a 100 year old veteran, Russell Thompson, to speak to our Intermediate students on November 7th.
Me to We Campaign - WE SCARE HUNGER!
We are wrapping up the Me to We campaign, We Scare Hunger. We Scare Hunger is a food drive to raise awareness about hunger in the school, community and Canada.
Monday November 4, 2019 marks the last day to bring in food items for our We Scare Hunger campaign. With steep competition between classes as to who brought in the most food, we can't wait to hear who our top Scarers are!
Southview certainly has done their part in scaring hunger! Thank you for all of your support.
Sincerely,
Your Me to We team
