What's Happening at Tiogue Elementary School, Home of the Timberwolves
Arrival and Dismissal:
We are asking for your cooperation during our crowded arrival and dismissal times. If you are dropping off your child in the morning, please follow the traffic pattern that leads to our crossing guard, Mrs. Cole. If you are walking your children to school please be aware of the new minibus traffic pattern. The minibuses are driving along the street adjacent to the building. The buses drop off children in the back of the building near the gymnasium then proceed to leave the school area by driving next to our building, pulling into the parking lot where the other school buses drop off/pick up students. We have noticed that during our dismissal, walker students and families are standing where the minibuses exit. The drivers of the minibuses are not comfortable with people in that area, especially during dismissal. To minimize the confusion, we are asking that walkers leave the school grounds prior to the minibuses leaving the area.
Also, because we have so many Kindergarten and grade one students leaving as walkers this year, we are walking out our younger students to their respective family members picking up in the afternoon. Several of the younger students are anxious about walking out into a large crowd, so please stay within the yellow marked pick-up areas, leaving the front doorways clear.
Open House:
Finally, don't forget that our annual Open House is set for Thursday, September 20th from 6:30pm-8pm. We will begin the evening in the gymnasium followed by brief, grade level and classroom presentations. You will be able to meet your child's teacher(s) that evening.
All the best,
-Mr. Giusti

Our Nurse's Corner:
In a few weeks we will be starting our fresh fruit and vegetable program (FFVP) here at Tiogue School. We have received a grant in conjunction with the Rhode Island Department of Education and the USDA. This is our third year participating in this program, and we are very excited. The program is a tasting of various in season fruits and vegetables, and the menu will change monthly. The program also supports our district Wellness Policy, and will give students some additional health education on healthy eating.
The healthy fruit and vegetable snacks are provided to children at no cost. They are offered separately from the lunch or breakfast meals.
The goals of the FFVP are to:
Create healthier school environments by providing healthier food choices.
Expand the variety of fruits and vegetables children experience.
Increase children’s fruit and vegetable consumption.
Make a difference in children’s diets to impact their present and future health.
Grades K through 5 will be tasting on Tuesday/Thursday. If we have a Monday holiday the tasting will be Wednesday/Friday. These tastings do not replace any snack or meals for students.
If you do not want your child to participate in the FFVP for any reason, or your child has any fruit or vegetable allergies please fill out this form and send it into the School Nurse by Friday September 21, 2018.
Feel free to contact me with any questions,
Gina D’Aguanno RN
From Past Newsletters:
HEARING SCREENINGS will take place for students in Grade K though 3 on September 25, 2018. You will be getting a paper home to fill out if your child has had a recent ear infection, or is under treatment. If you DO NOT want your child screened by the RI School For The Deaf you must provide me with an equivalent screening, and notify me via email or in writing no later then Friday 9/21/18.
Our Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program will be starting soon.
