The Winch Word
Back to School Edition - September 2016
Welcome back!
We're off to a great start here at OWWMS. The kids have only been back for six days, but in so many ways it feels like we never left. I'm always happy to see how quickly we pick up as if we were all together yesterday; A testament to the seamless dedication of our faculty and staff, for sure. I've met a lot of smiling faces in the hallways, classrooms, and cafeteria, and that definitely is a great sight to see. It was wonderful to be able to start the year talking about all of the exciting things happening at OWWMS on CBS 6 morning news on the first day. You may have seen our 21st Century Learning Spaces and our 6th grade Chromebooks initiative featured. It's definitely a wonderful time to be a middle school student in South Glens Falls!
The First Day Activity: What is your hope?
Morning Arrival
A quick thank you for following through on pulling farther down Hudson Street in front of the school during arrival time each morning. While we certainly understand that students would prefer to be dropped off as close to the front entrance as possible, many more students are arriving by car these days. This procedure has helped to move things along much more quickly than in past years.
If you need to visit the main or counseling offices in the morning we ask that you please park closer to the gymnasium doors near the corner of E. 6th St. and still entering through the main door so as not to clog up the flow of arrivals between 7:25 and 7:40 AM. Thank you for your help and understanding!
Lockers
We ask that you please reinforce at home that students should not be:
1) Sharing locker combinations with friends
2) Setting their locker combination before walking to class so that they can quickly open it without having to put the combination before their following class
3) Tampering with the locking mechanism to prevent the locker from latching and locking -especially no pencils or paper clips being used to block the mechanism.
4) Leaving items on the floor in the Physical Education locker room; All students are assigned a secure PE locker, and it should be used every time they change.
How can I find out what's going on?
I'm glad you asked! There are a variety of ways to find out about OWWMS.
- Our school & District website (including daily calendars of activities)
- Remind text message service (see instructions below)
