Updates and Reminders
Eastview Elementary School - February 19, 2016
I would like to thank all of you that participated in the professional development on Monday. I'm excited to continue our planning in regard to meeting the needs of those in poverty and providing authentic learning opportunities for our kiddos. Please review the documents on Google classroom. Those can be edited by all, so feel free to add ideas and your planned next steps. We will continue this work at our March teachers' meeting.
Also, I would like to say a big "thank you" to all of you that have been involved in getting the ISTEP practice test up and going. I know there have been a lot of questions and stress involved in this, and you all have handled things professionally. You always keep our students' needs as the focus.
With all of the testing, it is easy to fall into the trap of abandoning what we know works and go into full blown "test mode." Please do not do this. I know that some test prep is necessary but solid core instruction will better prepare our students than anything else we can do. With regard to reading, the expectation for all classrooms is that we are sticking to the components of the Reading Workshop framework: mini-lesson; guided/independent; closure. Please let me know if you have questions about this.
Here are some upcoming events.
Tuesday: Julie and Sandi from PATINS here (9:00 Sherck/Ary 11:00, Foulke/Hufferd), Head Start Parent Meeting
Wednesday: Grade 3-6 RTI/Data Meetings during planning times
Thursday:Math Bowl @ Rushville
Friday: The iPad cart will be used by Ben/Meggan/Maggie in the a.m. for the next 3 Fridays
Thank you all for your support!
Grades 3-6 - Please email the times of your practice and operational ISTEP math tests to Brenda and James ASAP.
Please make sure that you have emailed any schedule changes to our coaches. SPED teachers, Brenda and James. It is important that we have current versions of schedules. It is expected that everyone is following their schedule. If you have any doubts about this, please email them anyway.
ENN will be filming each grade in the gym at some point on Wednesday for our ISTEP video. Christina will schedule this with each of you.
Please remember to send change of transportation notes to the office in the am.
Students are to go home their routine way unless there is a phone call or
note to change that.If a student is adamant there is change, please contact parent before the end of the day to verify.
- Please remember to let both Brenda and I know if you are going to be out for a sick or personal day. Please do not just put this in Aesop without letting us both know. An email to both of us is fine.
Check out the following video on transitions (Thanks, Kate!):
Continue to check Lexia and Dreambox usage and make adjustments so kiddos can reach their weekly goals. Please make sure you are logging into your account at least once per week to see what your kiddos are learning.

During the Feb. 17 PTO meeting the PTO agreed to replace our Wii (PBIS incentive).. They also decided to sponsor an Eastview Scholarhip in the amount of $500 dollars annually for a former Eastview student graduating from CHS. Here are the details for this:
Eastview PTO will award a scholarship to a former Eastview student who
is graduating from Connersville High School and wishes to further his/her
education beyond the high school years. The selection criteria will include,
but not be limited to, academic achievement, financial need, and citizenship.
The recipient must have attended Eastview at least four years. Application
will be made using the common scholarship application form provided by
Connersville High School. It is the intent of the Eastview PTO to make this
scholarship award $500.00. The Eastview PTO Scholarship Selection
Committee, comprised of the principal, a teacher, and parent officer of the
PTO, will review all applications and select the recipient. The scholarship will
be paid directly to the recipient upon presenting to the principal proof of
acceptance and registration at a post - secondary institution.
The next PTO meeting will be held on March 16 at 4:00. We will be organizing materials for Fallapoolza and could use lots of help.
