NTI District Updates
April 22, 2020
Dear JCPS Families,
We can’t express how happy we are with the results of the first two-and-a-half weeks of school at home. Last week, 93 percent of nearly 100,000 JCPS students participated in Non-Traditional Instruction (NTI) with their teachers. Some schools even had 100 percent participation. Those are impressive numbers! It’s a testament to our parents, guardians, families, students and teachers that we’re seeing this kind of engagement with school under difficult circumstances. Thanks to all of you.
We have a couple of other updates to share with you:
The last day of school for JCPS students is now scheduled for May 27th. The Jefferson County Board of Education approved the change from June 3rd to May 27th at its meeting last night. Students will complete the remainder of the school year through NTI.
Packets of Educational Materials: The packets with hard copies of educational materials will no longer be available at every Emergency Food Distribution site. Beginning Friday, April 24th the packets will be available at 14 sites: Blue Lick, Brandeis, Chancey, Crums Lane, Engelhard, Fern Creek, Frayser, Indian Trail, McFerran, St. Matthews and Wheatley Elementary Schools; Carrithers Middle School; and Valley High School and Americana Community Center. We have begun mailing more packets directly to students reducing the need for as many pick-up sites.
Show off Your Child: Please show us how your child is doing NTI at home. You can post short videos or photos on social media and include the hashtags #ThisIsHowINTI and #WeAreJCPSatHome or you can send them to us at jcps.communications@jefferson.kyschools.us.
We know many of you are social distancing, working from home as well as helping your child with their school work. We understand this can be stressful. Just do your best. The teachers, administrators and staff at JCPS are doing the same. We are here to support you and your child during this unprecedented time in America’s history.
Sincerely,
JCPS Communications

LMHS Counselor Connect Opportunities NEXT Week!!
This is an informal opportunity for Students and Parents to check-in with Counselors. This will be a time for Counselors to provide another level of support for students. It will be an informal open forum platform for students and parents to ask questions, check-in, and receive helpful tips.
Please know that we are aware of many concerns and questions regarding end of year activities and NTI. We may not have all the answers in that moment but we will collect all inquiries and follow up at a later date.

**UPDATE** Senior Defense Information
NTI Senior Defense Important Notes
Completion Deadline - May 8th, 2020
Library Student Backpack Webpage
2020 Seniors will still complete their Backpack Defense. Seniors will be contacted by their “Defense Panelist” through the JCPS student email account in order to determine which presentation option will work best for their current needs (see #8).
Students have artifacts from previous years that are in an archive folder in their Google Drive. They will need to move them into this year's backpack folder for them to be counted in their artifact numbers.
REMINDER: Seniors should have a minimum of 2 artifacts in each folder.
REQUIREMENTS: Senior Backpack Overview Sheet and 1-page minimum Senior Reflection must be completed and submitted to their Defense Panelist before they can defend. (Make a copy of the overview sheet and type in your information/Write on a paper copy and submit photos).
SHARING - Seniors are to use the SHOWCASE feature in the backpack. It allows them to attach their Google Slide presentation and SHARE a link with others to view their presentation. They will need to share/email their showcase link through this google form: CLICK HERE ***If the link contains the word “null”, it will not work! This often happens if the link is shared before the presentation is added to the showcase.***
SCORING: Senior defense presentations will be counted as a Mastery grade for each class. Senior defense scores will not be shared at the conclusion of the presentation but will be emailed to the student via their JCPS student email account.
PRESENTATION OPTIONS: We are aware that Seniors may have different levels of technology at home. Defense Panelists should discuss presentation options. Some could include:
Sending in a video of you presenting your Backpack Defense in front of your computer monitor as you present your slides (copy of presentation should also be sent to Defense Panelist).
Send in a video of your slide presentation with your Voice recorded as you present.
Connect in a Google Meet and Show Your slides in real-time with your Defense Panelist.
Send your slides to your defense panelist and have a phone call as you talk through your slides.
LIMITED/NO TECHNOLOGY - A phone call to READ your Senor Reflection and describe the artifacts you would have chosen and post-secondary plans to the Defense Panelist.
Seniors and Defense Panelists can work to determine other options if available for student success.
