A Message from the Principal

VIS Families:

First and foremost, I want to extend my sincerest gratitude to our families, our staff, and our students as each have played a critical role in a successful reopening of schools five days a week. Like many of you, I also shared some uncertainty as to what this shift would feel like, however, I can share with you that our return to full day school has been a tremendous success; while Covid is still a reality for all of us, it has been a pleasure to witness the enthusiasm and excitement showed by our students the past week as they reconnect with peers and familiar routines.

This past week, our administrative staff has been visiting classrooms with the following goals in mind:

  • To praise our students for the resiliency they have shown in managing numerous changes over the past 14 months. VIS students should take great pride in all they have accomplished.
  • To remind students of the importance of continuing to show respect by adhering to masking expectations, distancing, and hand sanitizing.
  • To answer questions that students may have regarding reopening procedures or expectations.
  • To gauge students feelings around their return to school full time (responses have been overwhelming positive thus far).

It can be said that through adversity comes great opportunities. Without question, our students have experienced significant challenges and changes, both in their school and personal lives. There is no question that some of these changes negatively impacted students. That said, it could not be more evident that our students took advantage of opportunities in spite of these challenges. Whether it was mastering Google Classroom, learning how to communicate via email, respectfully engaging in Zoom meetings, demonstrating independence at home, or prioritizing responsibilities, our students, both in person and remote (and our staff) have gained invaluable skills that will serve them well moving forward. It is our goal as a school to continue to build upon these assets moving forward.

While we still have much to accomplish academically this year, we also hope to celebrate with students as we approach the conclusion of this unique school year. As plans are finalized, keep an eye out for communications from your child’s teacher regarding the many year-end events that will be planned. To the greatest degree possible, we will look to provide similar experiences to prior years to the greatest degree that DOH/CDC regulations will allow.

Your continued support and flexibility is appreciated and please do not hesitate to reach out should you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Kevin Swartz
