The Buzz at Westbrook School

From the Principal...
March 18th, 2022
Dear Westbrook Families,
Planning for the next school year begins early. If you would like to request that certain information be considered in assigning a classroom placement, please complete this optional form. The most helpful comments speak to specific insights you have about your child as a learner. We have a wonderful staff, and so we hope that you will trust our expertise and input from your child’s current teacher to determine the best placement for your child for the upcoming school year. Please consider the following guidelines regarding the placement request process:
- Please do not request a specific teacher.
- If you have more than one child, please complete a separate form for each.
- All information is kept confidential and only read by Mrs. Crandall and Mr. Anderson
- All requests must be submitted by Thursday, April 14.
Classroom pictures will take place on Thursday, March 31st. Students will go outside with their class to the playground and take a group photo for the yearbook. Spring break will be from March 19th through March 27th. We wish all families a relaxing and enjoyable break.
We look forward to seeing our students back at Westbrook the week of March 28th.
For your Children,
Danielle Crandall

The LRC Buzz
This week during LRC skills time, classes participated in a Breakout Edu.
In a Breakout EDU box activity, the students work together to think critically and problem-solve to "break into" locked boxes. To be successful, the students had to follow directions and solve puzzles to succeed!
The mission was to help Goldie McMuffin find his missing gold just in time for St. Patrick's Day! They only had 25 minutes to find the gold by working together on rhyming, number sentences, word family mazes, and color patterns. They did great and we all had a lot of fun!
Have a wonderful Spring Break!

The Monarch Award: Illinois' K-3 Readers' Choice Award winners have been announced
Westbrook K and 1st grade students voted a few weeks ago for their favorite Monarch nominees and the State winners were announced today.
We voted the same as kids across the whole state! Basically, we chose the winners!
3rd place: SumoKitty by David Biedrzycki
2nd place: The Very Impatient Caterpillar by Ross Burach
1st place winner: Potato Pants! by Laurie Keller
Results were close and details will be shared after Spring Break.

Note from the Nurse: COVID-19 Vaccination Card Information
Dear Parents,
District 57 offers families the opportunity to voluntarily provide their child’s COVID-19 vaccination status. We are asking parents to send a copy of their child's Covid vaccination card to the health office after their child receives their second dose. This is greatly appreciated!
Thank you,
Julie Tworek, RN
