Kindergarten Class News
April 24-28, 2017
Daily 5/Reading
Early on this week, we read an article about a farmer's market and discussed the difference between a farmer's market and a grocery store. The students also talked about how foods get to farmer's markets and grocery stores. A skill we focused on was changing a certain sound in a word to make a new one. For example, you can change the "c" in cat to an "m" and change the word to mat. You could also change the "t" in mat to a "p" and make the word map. Today, students enjoyed filling in the blanks of a "Rainbow Rhyme" to create their own individual poem about the colors of the rainbow. We then used pieces of colored paper to create our own rainbows to display along with our poems.
Math
This week's math lessons have been all about money! The Kindergarteners have really enjoyed learning about pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters and putting their skip counting skills to work as we count the different coins. This is an easy/fun activity to try out as home as well!
Social Studies Timeline Project
We have been learning about time and how things and people change. I would like for each Kindergartener to create and present a timeline of their life. I would like for the kids to present these Friday, May 12th. Here are a couple of guidelines:
- Include a picture/brief description of one event or memory from each year of their life (5-6 items) starting with when they were born!
- This can be in any format that you'd like. I would like it to be as student-led as possible, so this does not need to be anything elaborate! You can get as creative as you'd like, but again I would like this to be created as much by your student as possible. Keep in mind that this will be something they have to bring with them on a bus, etc. to get it home. :)
- They will "present" these to their classmates, so go over each event with them at home beforehand.
- If you have any questions or are confused in any way, contact me!

- Library Books: This coming Tuesday, May 2nd, will be the last day to check out library books. Please start looking for lost books so we can get those checked back in before the end of the year. If you cannot find a book or are not sure of the title, please let me know. Thank you!
- LAST DAY OF SCHOOL is Friday, May 19th.
