Men Matter at Barnett
Currently, a select group of 7th & 8th grade young men are participating in Men Matter. Men Matter is a group that is aimed to assist students in developing social-emotional skills, pursuing academic/career success, and learning more about being productive citizens within the school community. Students meet on Mondays and Wednesdays of each week with Ms. Buard (Counselor) and Mr. Rodriquez (Student Outreach Facilitator).
Hope Squad is Coming to Barnett!!!
The Hope Squad program is a school-based peer support team that partners with local mental health agencies. Peers select students who are trustworthy and caring individuals to join the Hope Squad. Squad members are trained to watch for at-risk students, provide friendship, identify suicide-warning signs, and seek help from adults.
HOPE Squad members are NOT taught to act as counselors, but are educated on recognizing suicide warning signs and how to properly and respectfully report concerns to an adult. Once invited to be a HOPE Squad member, students must get a permission form signed by their parents and go through training.
Counselors will be visiting both 7th and 8th graders this week to explain more about the program and hold nominations. Parents of nominated students will be notified and asked to attend a meeting about the program. For more questions please contact Mrs. White.
