Hwood Pride!!! #Allin4Hwood

Principal Message - May 2, 2016

It is hard to believe that May is here!!! It feels like just yesterday students and faculty were lining up on the blacktop ready to enter the building for the first day of school. The academic and social growth of our students this year is unbelievable. I am so impressed by the quality of their work and the kindness that they show to each other.

I would like to thank the parents that took the time and nominated faculty members for Educational Professional of the Year. It will certainly be a difficult decision for the committee. The winner will be announced at a school assembly in May!

As our school journey comes to a close, please continue to discuss with your child the importance of making good choices. A lot of fun activities are planned and student cooperation is important for successful activities/events. As always if you have a problem or concern, do not hesitate to contact your child's classroom teacher. Also remember my door is always open.

Thank you for your support and I look forward to a strong finish!

Hwood Pride!!!

Family Reading Time!

I encourage each Hazelwood family to make time to read as a family. The time spent reading with your child feeds their brain and helps develop the love of literacy. This is a perfect time to start taking a few minutes each day and read aloud to your child (great modeling strategy) or listen to your child read. Nothing is better than sharing a great book. It is a great way to spend quality time as a family!

Great Health Habits!

Home and school work together to help children develop desirable habits:

  • Encourage you child to:
  • Eat a good breakfast.
  • Brush teeth regularly.
  • Relax and rest quietly.
  • Develop good sitting and standing posture.
  • Go to bed at an early hour.

In order to prevent the spread of diseases, parents should keep their children home when the following exists:

  • Vomiting - In the past 24 hours
  • Students should not return to school until symptom free for a minimum of 24 hours.

Please inform the teacher and nurse of any condition which might in any way affect your child in school. When children become ill in school, parents will be notified and are expected to take them home. Please ensure all contact (including emergency information) is updated with the school.
