Attendance and Tardies

As the holidays approach, we have noticed quite a few more absences and tardies. Please try to have your child here at school by 7:30 so that they can start their day off in the most positive way possible.

The gym does open at 7:00 AM and is supervised. Breakfast is also available for purchase at 7:15 in the cafeteria to make your mornings a little easier.

Baby, it's getting colder outside!

We believe that Kindergartners do best with lots of activity. Therefore, we will continue to have recess twice a day. Please send your child to school dressed for the weather so that they are both comfortable and safe as they play. You know what they say...work hard, play hard!

Applesauce Cake with Butter Frosting!

Parents,

We read a story called Apple Farmer Annie, about an apple farmer who makes apple treats and sells them at the Farmer’s Market. The story included a recipe for Applesauce Cake with Butter Frosting. All the classes thought the recipe sounded so yummy and wished they could have a piece. So, here you go! Enjoy your fall goodies, whether or not it includes this apple treat!

Applesauce Cake

½ cup butter 1 teaspoon cinnamon

1 cup sugar ½ teaspoon nutmeg (optional)

2 eggs ½ teaspoon allspice

1 ¼ cups flour 1 cup applesauce

½ teaspoon baking soda ½ teaspoon salt

2/3 cup raisins (optional)

Cream together butter and sugar in a large mixing bowl. Add eggs and beat well. In a separate bowl, sift together flour, baking soda, salt, and spices. Add to creamed mixture alternately with applesauce, beating after each addition and blending well. Stir in raisins. Pour batter into a 9-inch greased tube pan (bundt pan). Bake at 375 degrees for 45 minutes or until browned. Toothpick inserted into cake should come out clean. Cool, then spread with Butter Frosting.

Butter Frosting

2 tablespoons softened butter

2 cups confectioners’ sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

3 tablespoons milk

Cream together butter, sugar, and vanilla extract. Add milk and stir well. The frosting should be smooth and easy to spread.
