Third- Eighth Grade Teachers
Course Description
This session will investigate the purpose behind the implementation of close reading in both informational and fictional text. Participants will learn how to direct students to read for intent and become an active reader. Attendees will explore common theories of close reading that will help students become an active participant in reading, making connections, while uncovering layers of challenging texts. Teachers will engage in online collaborative discussions and reflections on classroom implementation of close reading.
Course Outcomes
Attendees will leave with current understandings of close reading and how it can be implemented in the classroom. Participants will gain tips on how to implement close reading within a diverse classroom. Attendees will learn how to modify close reading to meet the needs of all learners within the classroom.

How many Internal University credits will I receive if I attend this course?
- 1 Internal University credit will be presented to all who successfully complete the course requirements.
What is the cost for those who want to attend for Internal University credit?
- $100 per person
How many CPDUs will I receive?
- 16 hours of CPDUs will be available
Can I get paid an hourly rate if I want to attend but don't want Internal University credit?
- Staff choosing not to receive Internal University credit will be paid $14 per hour for each of the 16 hours of class attendance and
