Weekly Update- September 19, 2016

Open House is on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at 7:00 p.m.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone at Open House. The first session begins promptly at 7:00 p.m. There will be a second session immediately following at 7:30 p.m.

Open house is an event when we open our doors so parents can meet with our teachers and get a glimpse into the children's learning day. Families can get acquainted with their children's teachers, see the classrooms after all the children have settled in, and get an overview of classroom expectations, both for academics and behavior. Individual conferences with teachers are scheduled for November 1, 2 & 3.(More information will be forthcoming on this as the dates get closer).

Dismissal is 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 21

K-3 Hearing Screening 8:30-11:20 a.m.

LEAD Program begins on Friday, September 23 for our 6th graders

The LEAD Program (Law Enforcement Against Drugs) coordinated by the school district's Health and Physical Education Department affords our 6th graders an opportunity to interact with Nutley Police Officers on a monthly basis. The program is a framework of emotional and social skills that develop goal-setting, decision-making and effective communication skills, according to Nutley Det. Sgt. Mike Padilla.

PTO Informaton

Thank you to our PTO for hosting Tuesday evening. Pre-K and Kindergarten parents were introduced to our PTO and the ways in which they can get involved.

Communication from PTO- all communications (flyers, letters, reminders) that will be going out to the school from the PTO need to go first to the communication chair, Holly Gionni at hollybethpohl@hotmail.com. We need to make sure that she is aware because the information needs to get updated on the website and the PTO Facebook page.

Upcoming Dates

Please note that Friday, October 7 is a Single-Session Day. There is NO School on Columbus Day, October 10.

6th Grade Camping Meeting on 9/21

All 6th grade parents are invited to attend the brief Camping Meeting at 6:30 p.m. in the Auditorium on Wednesday, September 21.

BOX TOPS Collection

Calling all SGS Families- it's that time of year again to start collecting our Box Tops for our Bi-Annual Competition. The first deadline is October 21, 2016. Please send your box tops in loosely and put in classroom bag that has been provided to each homeroom. Please do not tape, glue or paste them on another sheet.(They have to be counted separately) There is a reward for the class with the most Box Tops!
