November 2012 Newsletter for the NPES Community!

We are here for YOU!

With a more flexible schedule in the Learning Commons this year, we are here to help YOU! Schedule the Learning Commons for presentations; use the Apple TV to share apps on the iPad; or come in as a class or in small groups for research! Mrs. Byrd Fort, Mrs. Gobbi, and Ms. Burkett are here to help!

Some projects/lessons we have been working on:

*Small group animal research with Mrs. Derrick's class

*Computer Lab and iPad exploration (Wordle, Voki, Fotobabble) with Mrs. Frye's class

*Global Read Aloud with Mrs. Watkins' class

*SMART Response System use with several teachers

*Fiction/Non-Fiction lessons with 1st grade classes

*Inventor research using print and non-print resources with 5th grade classes

*"Book Taste" lesson with Mrs. Weeks' 5th grade classes

Some ways teachers are using the Learning Commons:

*Mrs. Kinard has used it for students who need to record a video in a quiet place

*Mrs. Ancone's 1st graders come in everyday to read books on Tumblebooks

*Mrs. Shull's 4th graders come to type documents on the computers

Some ideas!

*Use the Learning Commons as a "center" or station...send students in for Tumblebooks or post a question/poll on Edmodo and have them come to the Learning Commons to answer that question.

*Exchange books!

If you are interested in ANY of this (or you have other ideas), let us know!

Thank you for all you do!
