Give the gift of books!

The annual Guide Book to Gift Books for 2013 has been released. Find age-appropriate book suggestions for holidays, birthdays, and all your other gift-giving occasions. You'll find picture books, nonfiction, and chapter books with book summaries.

iPads and FOCUS Apps

Did you know LMES has 300+ iPads?! LMES students are showing examples of their learning by using school-wide focus apps this year. The first app students will be creating with is Pic Collage. This app allows students to create informational posters with custom backgrounds, pictures, and text. This app is useful for explaining, sorting, classifying, labeling, organizing information, and creating Frayer models for vocabulary. Take a look below of an example of using Pic Collage as a top hat organizer for showing how two things are alike and different.

Amelia Bedelia Author Visit

Herman Parish, author of the Amelia Bedelia books, will visit LMES in early February. Mr. Parish writes stories of the beloved "literal-minded" character who gets mixed-up in funny misunderstandings. The series started with Peggy Parish of Manning, SC. Herman, her nephew, took over writing after Peggy passed away in the late 1980s. Amelia Bedelia books have been in print for 50 years now! Students in grades K-2 will have an opportunity to hear Mr. Parish talk about his books and the writing process. Book order forms will be sent home in January if you would like to purchase an autographed copy. Stay tuned for more information!

Be a Book Buddy

The Media Center has brand-new books for you to place an inscription inside to honor a special person and help us grow our library collection. After a donation for the cost of the book is made, you can be the first person to checkout the book! A completed form along with payment must accompany the book(s) you wish to donate. Make checks payable to LMES. See Mrs. Matney or Mrs. Bootle to choose a book or browse the available choices online.

Thank you for shopping our Book Fair!

We had a VERY successful November book fair! We profited $4706.77 to go towards purchasing new library books as well as research databases like PebbleGo and TrueFlix. Thanks to all the students, teachers, and family members who came out to shop and support our school. Many thanks to the parent volunteers who dedicated their time in helping setup and take down the book fair and assisting with preview and sales days. A huge thanks goes out to our book fair volunteer coordinator, Vera Timmons, for her hard work in making the book fair run smoothly. Stay tuned for our end of the year book fair in May...a great lead-in for summer reading.
