States of Matter
Sean Wimpee
Solids
A substance or object that is a solid rather than liquid or fluid.
1. Solids like to hold their shapes
2. Solids are tightly packed together
3. Retains a fixed volume and shape
Liquids
Having a consistency like that of water, flowing freely but of constant volume
1. Takes the shape of an object
2. There is space between the atoms of the liquid, they move around slowly
3. Liquids are affected by gravity
Gas
An air like fluid substance which expands freely to fill any space available
1. Gas fills the shape of what you put it in
2. Move freely
3.
Bose Einstein Condensate
State of matter of a dilute gas of bosons cooled to temperatures close to absolute zero.
1. Was created in 1995
2. The BEC happens at super low temperatures
3.
