Special Event

APRIL 9, 2016
10 AM - 1 PM
THE THEATRE IN THE PARK
7710 RENNER ROAD
SHAWNEE, KS

JCPRD's Children Service's Trucks and Big Rigs
Have you ever wondered what the inside of that big rig or tractor looks like? Do you have a child who LOVES trucks? Bring them out to the parking lot of The Theatre in the Park, located in beautiful Shawnee Mission Park, to explore trucks, tractors, construction, and city vehicles up close. Crawl, climb, and sit in the driver's seat and talk with the real life operators of these vehicles. We also feature the tow truck character from the animation movie: Cars, as well as many other kids favorites.

Benefiting Special Olympics & Special Populations
Admission to this four-hour event is free, but a donation of $10 per participant vehicle is suggested at the gate. All proceeds will benefit the JCPRD Special Olympics and Special Populations Department.

Commit to Health Pledge

We are very excited to report that we have taken the Commit to Health Pledge! In doing so you can expect to see our out of school time participants engaging in more physical activity, learning about good nutrition, and eating healthier snacks while in attendance at JCPRD. Commit to Health is an initiative of the National Recreation and Park and Association and The Alliance for a Healthier Generation. Our staff has worked hard to develop a new food service menu that features items that are nutrient dense, low in fat, sugar, and sodium, as well as more fresh fruits and vegetables. Please support our efforts to help students develop healthy eating habits by encouraging them to be open to trying new foods and by reinforcing the benefits of nutritious diet. Healthy snacks and meals improve cognitive function, increase energy, and help children grow strong muscles and bones!
