Roy Lichtenstein
74 Years Old
Background
Lichtenstein was born on October 27,1923 in New York City. He grew up on Manhattans Upper West Side. He was the only child of Milton and Beatrice Lichtentein. Hes father was a prosporus real estate developer. As a child he was described as quite and very interested in science and comic books. When he was 16 he became more interested in art and decided to take art classes. After he graduated he studied at Ohio State University but that was interrupted when he was drafted for World War II. After the war he returned to school finishing his degree in art and he eventually got his masters so he could teach at Rutger's University.
Art Contribution
Roy Lichtenstein was one of the leading figures along side Andy Warhol in the Pop Art movement. Lichtenstein began experimenting with Pop art in the 1960s while teaching at Rutgers University. His paintings heavily resembled comic books and advertising which made his artwork very unique.
