From the Principal:
At Midland, we are working hard to teach reading skills to all our students in every grade! Did you know that reading (or being read to) increases a student's vocabulary?
Nightly reading is one of our homework expectations. Please check in with your child to see what they are reading, and ask some questions about the characters, setting, and the plot! Thanks for your support!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Dawson

It’s Time to Refer 3rd and 4th Grade Students for the 2020-2021 Highly Capable Student Program!
Do you have a student who…
- learns easily and quickly?
- thinks up unusual ways to solve hard problems?
- has a clever sense of humor?
- dislikes doing the same thing over and over?
- thinks logically and wants things to make sense?
- is open to new ideas?
- is persistent and wants to keep trying with difficult tasks?
If you answered “yes” to any of the above questions, please refer your student to test for the Highly Capable Student Program. Please complete a Project Excel Program Referral packet online (https://bit.ly/2RRmKGb) by 4:00pm, March 13th. Testing materials are ordered the next day and late registrations may not be able to be accommodated.
Please be aware that students who live within the district boundaries will receive first consideration. Out-of-district students who attend Franklin Pierce schools must be granted another year’s release and will be placed in the program after all qualifying in-district students have been served.
If you have any questions, please contact Annette Burnett by phone at (253) 298-3062 or by email at aburnett@fpschools.org.
Daily attendance is one of the most powerful predictors of school success and on-time graduation.
Our goal is to have every student at school on time every day. We are asking for your help and partnership in getting your student to school every day. Whether you need to maintain your student’s excellent attendance or improve future attendance, it will not only help your student be more successful this school year, but will prepare your student to do well in the future at college and at work.
Our goal is for students to miss seven (7) or fewer days during the school year. We understand students may miss some school; however, those times should be limited. Attendance is so important that each student’s attendance data is transferred to his/her permanent records at the end of the school year. Attendance is also recorded on all students’ transcripts.
Toys at School
Please remind your children that toys/trading cards are NOT to be brought to school from home. This is an interruption to learning and we cannot take responsibility if they are lost, stolen or broken. Thank you!
January is School Board Recognition Month
We want to thank Alex Davis, Rebecca Gallogly, Dr. Gil Mendoza, Mary Sherman, and Board President Cole Roberts for the many hours they volunteer on behalf of every child in our school district. Their duties include setting the vision and mission of education in the district; establishing policy; adopting an annual budget; approving all expenditures; employment of personnel; curriculum, textbooks and courses; and deciding on school sites, building plans, and construction.
Midland needs volunteers!
Please consider being a Midland Super Hero by coming to our rescue and volunteering to attend 5th grade camp!
We are still looking for volunteers to go to 5th grade camp, March 4th – 6th.
Our district’s volunteer application form is available on-line at fpschools.org.
