What's in the VIP folder today...
This week we are wrapping up our unit on government. We wrote expository essays on the character qualities we look for in a presidential candidate and nominated our own candidates for class president. Students who accepted the nomination from a peer have the opportunity to present a brief speech to the class on why they have the character qualities that would make them a wise choice for class president! Students may bring in a poster or sing a song that would inspire others to vote for them as well. The ballots have been prepared and we will vote tomorrow!
In math, we are adding, subtracting and multiplying fractions! Next week, we will begin our unit on decimals.
Next week, we will begin a new unit in Social Studies on westward expansion. We will be packing our covered wagons up and venturing out into the unknown, unexplored land west of the Mississippi River.
In an effort to get to know the 50 states a little better, we will be participating in The Great Mail Race. This will enable us to become pen pals with other 4th graders through out the USA and learn more about other parts of our great nation! We will be writing our letters tomorrow!
I am so proud of the hard work the students have been putting into their math, reading and writing. Even when it has been difficult, these students have been persevering and not giving up. That is definitely a worthy character quality that will take them far in all that they do!
