Lowell Lantern
LAST DAY OF SCHOOL IS MONDAY, JUNE 3, 2019
Week of May 20--May 24, 2019
WE ARE LOWELL
Our theme at Lowell this year is "We are Lowell...CORE is our Superpower!"--Civility, Order, Respect, Excellence. We are encouraging students to embrace this challenge and achieve them.
A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Lowell Families,
Our 3rd graders have completed their ILEARN Testing this week, and we are so proud of their hard work and effort! Our 4th graders are almost finished. They will have their last Science test next Monday, May 13. Keep going strong!!
All grade levels are taking the End of Year NWEA Assessment for Reading and Math. This will allow us to gauge their growth throughout the school year. In addition, our teachers are giving their students an additional Reading Assessment in order to verify their end of year reading level. We appreciate all of the effort that our students are putting forth with these end of year assessments. They are so very important!
We have many upcoming field trips across all grade levels. Please make sure to check with your child’s teacher regarding dates and times for field trips. In addition, please remember to complete a required background check if you are planning on chaperoning on your child’s trip. In order to chaperone, you MUST complete a background check. Those forms are available at the front office. If you are accompanying your child on a field trip, we ask that you NOT bring younger siblings or children on the field trip. As a chaperone, you are agreeing to be responsible for supervising a small group of children. This proves difficult to do with younger siblings as they require your attention. We appreciate your adherence to this policy. As always, thank you for volunteering.
May is a busy month with a lot of activities. Below are some important upcoming dates.
Wednesday, May 22 -- 4th Grade Appreciation Night at 7:00pm in the gym
Friday, May 24 -- 4th Grade Party at Post Road Christian Church -- during the school day
Monday, May 27 -- Memorial Day -- No School
Friday, May 31 -- CORE Celebration
Monday, June 3 -- Field Day
Monday, June 3 -- LAST DAY OF SCHOOL -- EARLY DISMISSAL AT 2:30pm
Have a great weekend!
Mrs. Griffin
ATTENTION 4TH GRADE PARENTS!!
The PTA makes the end of the year very memorable for the 4th graders! Wednesday, May 22, 2019 is our 4th Grade Appreciation Night at Lowell at 7:00pm in the Gym. Students will be recognized for their hard work during their elementary school career. We invite all of our 4th graders and their families to this celebration. Students should have brought home an invitation with details. Doors will open at 6:45pm. Students are asked to dress nicely and arrive on time. We will begin promptly at 7pm. Please join us to celebrate your children!
In addition, the PTA sponsors a party for our 4th graders to celebrate the completion of Elementary School. The 4th grade party will be on Friday, May 24th at Post Road Christian Church. They will leave school at 10:00am and return at 2:00pm. If you would like to chaperone, please contact Jaymie Hunckler at bradandjaymiehunckler@gmail.com or call the office directly at 317-532-3900.

I would like to give a HUGE THANK YOU to the staff, students and the many volunteers for helping to make our book fair a success!
The main goal of our book fairs is to promote reading and watch our students “light up” when getting a new book. We sold over $6000 in books and merchandise. I am proud to say that the media center earned $1650.00 to be used toward the purchase of more books and materials for the library.
Thank you to these volunteers! Thomas Pratt, Kate Homer, Megan Morgan, Amanda Guess, Kay Rose, Candy Gauer, Marissa Temple, Heather Stofer, Stephanie Lickliter, Mary Young, Rachel Dobbins, Michele Reid, Lorin Costello, & Olivia Deighton.

FRIENDLY TIPS AND REMINDERS
* If your child will be absent due to illness or late due to a doctor's appointment, please call the front office at 317-532-3900 to report the absence or late arrival. This helps to ensure your child's safety. Please bring a doctor's note to document the excused absence.
* Dismissal is at 3:40pm. If you are picking up your child from school, please follow our car rider procedures.
* When arriving at Lowell, please make sure you stop first at the front desk. All visitors MUST sign in and put on a Lowell Badge while in the building. Safety is our top priority for our students. This process allows us to ensure every child's safety during the school day. Thank you for your cooperation.
* Parents are always welcome at Lowell! If you would like to visit your child's classroom, please call or email your child's teacher or Mrs. Griffin so we can make arrangements and ensure that the students will be in the classroom at the time of your visit. We encourage you and welcome you to always be a part of your child's learning, and we truly value your involvement!
* Please remember that our Lowell Campus is a smoke-free campus. There is no smoking allowed anywhere on Lowell grounds. This includes smoking in your cars while on the Lowell Campus.
Free Universal Breakfast
Our 2 week cycle breakfast menus offer a variety of healthy options for all students.
