Literacy
We have begun this month reading different variations of The Gingerbread Man stories. It has been fun to enjoy these books together as a class and also integrate this theme into all academic areas! This month we will begin our 2nd Literacy unit that focuses on relationships within the family and neighborhood.
Handwriting Without Tears
The letters we have learned are letters that are formed with straight lines down and little lines across. When I introduce how to write a new letter, we also learn the letter name as well as the sound the letter makes. I am hopeful that students master these letter names and sounds within a week or two after I have taught and reinforced the letter.
The letters children have learned so far are: L, F, E, H, T, and I.
We will be learning these letters before our Winter Break: U, C, O, and possibly Q.
We still quite often sing the song, "Where Do You Start Your Letters?" I have attached the song here!

Math
This month we are having some fun making art projects with our math themes. Last week, we decorated candy canes with two-part patterns. We also made gingerbread houses using shapes. We plan on displaying these two math projects in the hallway for the school to enjoy. Our evergreen tree art projects will work on sequencing objects according to their size. Shhh… these trees might turn into something memorable to share with families for the holidays!
SEL/Play Workshop
We will be finishing up Unit 2, Empathy, from our Second Step program in a few weeks. Our next unit is about emotion management. Our current Play Workshop unit is about empathy. This ties in quite well with our Second Step learning.
