By: Connor Pierson
What happened?
It was a Sunday morning. Just a day before Mr. president was offering Japan peace. There was no response. Later that night we got a message that Japan might be attacking somewhere in southeast Asia. We kept are guard up for a long night. We then receive another message, there could be an attack coming for us.
Timeline
December 7th- Pearl Harbor is attacked by Japan.
December 8th- U.S. declares war on Japan
December 9th- US declares war on Germany and Italy
THE ATTACK
It was around 7 a.m. when I woke up to the sound of the officials telling us there was an attack coming our way. Towards 8 A.M. the attack hit with 51 'Val' dive bombers, 40 'Kate' torpedo bombers, 50 high level bombers and 43 'Zero' fighters. The first wave aimed for our boats. They attacked us again aiming at our boats and aircrafts again. 8 ships were destroyed with 5 sunk. Lexington, Enterprise and Saratoga were the prime targets. 2,335 service men were killed, along with 68 civilians. 1178 were wounded. The news was reported by radio bulletins.
THE AFTERMATH
On the next day Britain and America declared war on Japan. President Roosevelt then says December 7 is, "a date which will live in infamy..." On the eleventh Italy and Germany declare war on America. Then it was Japan, Italy and Germany against America, France, Britain and their allies. So began a war.
Present Day
What happened at Pearl harbor is a lot like todays world. There has been attacks like the ones in Paris and California, by the group of ISIS. Like Pearl Harbor, It starts with on attack, and could lead to another war, World War III.
