Requests for Specific Learning Environment
Dear Parents/Guardians:
Parents may wonder how students are placed in classrooms or teams. As a staff we fully understand the importance of assigning students to homeroom teachers and that endeavor is taken very seriously. Grade level teachers, special education staff, counselors and specialists work diligently to develop the schedule. The goal of the placement process is to create heterogeneous class units. This requires balancing the unique needs of each child with the overall school need for cohesive homeroom and classroom sections. There are several items taken into account when creating class lists, such as ratio of boys to girls, students’ educational and behavioral needs to name only a few. We believe that if we are successful in creating balanced homeroom situations, all students in each class will have the best chance for learning and success. In early spring, staff begins to develop the school’s schedule for the 2019-20 school year.
If you feel your child has an educational need which should be considered when we place students, you will need to stop by the office to pick up a form to complete. The will need to be completed and returned by May 3, 2019. Due to various reasons including retirements and change in staff assignments, completing this form does not guarantee placement. Only requests focused on educational need will be considered. Please pick up and drop off this completed form in the office by May 3 2019. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Baier, Principal at 345-3059 or sbaier1@isd77.org. Thank you.

Meeting Minutes 4/8/2018
Meeting Attendees: Becca Peterson , Annette Wurdinger, Diane Winegar, Cherise Barker, Jennifer Brunz, Hilary Kent, Shane Baier, Shane Drahota
March Meeting Minutes Approved: Shane D. (1) Hilary (2)
Treasurers Report: There is about $36k total in all accounts. We are still waiting to close TCF accounts as they are tied to automatic credits from GiveMN and Amazon. Recent credits include yearbook funds, 4th grade fieldtrip reimbursements, 5th grade writers conference reimbursements, and HyVee and Barnes and Noble fundraisers. Debits include 5th grade writers conference, 4th grade busing for FarmAmerica, PAWS incentives, conference meals and appreciation gifts.
Teachers Report: A few questions regarding Walk-A-Thon items. When will envelopes go out? (May 1st) Can anyone assist with setup and execution of incentives? (Yes, just give PTO advance notice so we can have someone there) Discussion regarding ice cream incentive to ensure we have non-dairy options for students. Also, a thank you from teachers for the gum and mints given during testing.
Principals Report: There will be a celebration bench being placed by the 4th/5th grade playground during the Walk-A-Thon week. Educare is wanting specific details on the basket we are planning to bring. PTO decided on a garden themed basket and will proceed with putting it together with Diane’s help. Educare Board of Directors has some positions opening up, if anyone is interested. The children are super excited to finally start heading outdoors, despite the upcoming weather.
Request for Funding: None.
Committee Reports: Fundraising: We mailed in about $125 in Milk Moola to end their fundraiser. Focusing on Coke, they have limitations on how fundraising is communicated as they don’t want to be seen as promoting Coke products within the school. PTO discussed various ways we could generate awareness of the program while abiding by their wishes. We received notice that the BoxTop program is going all digital in the future. People will have to download the BoxTop app, take a picture showing qualifying products, and submit it via the app. They will slowly be converting products by the end of the year. There is an upcoming restaurant night on April 23rd from 4-8pm at the Dairy Queen on Adams St. Anyone who comes is asked to show a flyer or digital flyer when they order. Hilary did hear about our proceeds from Panera, but will check on the status of the forthcoming check. Walk-A-Thon incentives were sent to the office for the kids to put to a vote. We are awaiting the results. Walk-A-Thon rally segment will be in the May 1st Wildcat Rally. Flyer needs to be made about the Walk-A-Thon (Cherise to generate) Stephanie is coordinating Spirit Week with the Student Council, and Cherise to check with Beth to see about the video for the rally, but will make it if Beth is unable to do so. Jennifer to help lend another roaster for all of the 600 hotdogs ordered and Cherise to check with local media to see if they would like to attend.
New Executive Board Members Needed: Flyer with job positions was handed out. We are going to make this available to parents in an upcoming Tuesday folder.
Other: Kindergarten roundup is 4/11. Eileen and Becca will be there and a treat for incoming students was put together prior to the meeting.
Motion to Adjourn: Diane (1) Shane D. (2)
Coca-Cola Program..
We’re excited to share that our school is part of the Coca-Cola Give program. This opens Washington up to new funding opportunities to help improve learning environments for students.
The best part? Donations don’t come out of your own pocket. When you make Coca-Cola purchases, you simply enter the product codes here: https://us.coca-cola.com/give/schools/ and our school receives a donation. Simply search for Washington Elementary and enter or scan the code
Help Washington make the most of this program and learn more at Coke.com/give.
