A Note From Your Teachers
Join Mrs. Mitchell for a Web Conference
Google Accounts
Beginning on Monday, your child will have a schedule of assignments and tasks, which will be assigned through their Google accounts. All of the students have had experience with assignments through Google Classroom, Google Drive, and Edulastic. For each class, your child will receive their assignments for the entire week on Monday. The positive side of e-Learning is that your child will be able to complete these tasks at their own time. This is beneficial to families with more than one student and only one device. It is very important that students are completing these tasks, as they will ensure all students are ready to continue face-to-face lessons as soon as we are allowed to return to school.
Please reiterate to your student that all correspondence (emails, documents, and assignments) are still being monitored by the district's technology department, and the technology compact that was signed at the beginning of the year is still in effect.
Recommended Schedule:
One advantage of this learning platform is the flexibility of completing assignments. Please allow your children to have "down-time". With all the scary news that is being broadcast around the world right now, we want them to still be children. While we can plan for extremely beneficial lessons, sometimes the best real-world connection is for them to experience the real-world. Let them explore outside...let them help you cook by reading recipes and measuring ingredients...let them "teach" your family about different topics by researching, summarizing, and quizzing you...let them rewrite the endings of their favorite books or stories...let them be accountable for their own learning. We do not expect them to sit in front of a computer working from 7:10-2:40 each day.

How will we communicate?
From Mrs. Mitchell:
Weekly Agenda - ELA:
Independent Reading:
Choose your own book to read. You should be reading at least 30 minutes each day. There are lots of websites offering free books right now for download. Be sure to ask your parents before you download anything. Choose a book that you want to read. Be sure to choose a book that is appropriate to your level. You shouldn’t choose a book that is too hard or too easy.
iReady:
My Path Lessons (green lessons)~ 45 minutes per week
Teacher Assigned Lessons (blue lessons)
Evaluating Arguments in Informational Texts
Writing:
We will begin to hold e-conferences through Google Classroom based on the writing prompt shared in Google Classroom last week. You will see notes coming to you in the next few days.
Journaling:
This time in our history is so important to us. This is our opportunity to write firsthand accounts of what we are experiencing. Imagine if someone reads your journal entries years from now to learn about the Corona Virus Pandemic. Please be sure to complete your journal prompts each week. You should also be journaling each day - just tell about what’s going on, how you feel, what you’re thinking, and of course, how much you miss school =)
Other:
Be on the lookout for an invitation to web conferences that will take place this week. I can’t wait to see all of you and talk about what you’re doing!
I will post daily updates and/or information in the Google Classroom News Feed.
From Mrs. Pavolini:
Also, has your family received its United States Census 2020 letter in the mail yet? I just got mine! Be sure to sit down as a family and answer the brief questionnaire online together. By doing so, we ensure we get the proper representation in congress as well as needed funding in our school district. Thank you for being counted!
From Mrs. Pawlenko:
- Video Lesson: Each day a 10-15 minute video lesson will be uploaded to your child's Google Classroom. (Daily)
- Independent Practice: Student's will login to Edulastic to complete their independent work for their daily lesson (Daily)
- Math Review: I will also provide a spiral math review for students to complete on Edulastic. Have students work out problems and submit their assignments online. (2-3/week)
