Mr. Mauck's Musings
Last Sunday was National Custodian's Day, so we would like to thank Mike, Leeza, Jon and Mark for all the hard work they do cleaning up our messes. Our student of the week this week is Monica Diaz and our staff member is Shelly Krodel. Thank you both for making JHS a better place.
The Marching Wildcats performed for the elementary school kids today in preparation for the invitational we will host on Saturday. Head out and watch the band perform at 7:30 on Joe Rohleder field this Saturday. They picked up a first-place finish last week and the show is now complete.
Jasper FFA Soils teams competed at the Area contest yesterday. The Team consisting of Maddie Heim, Jackson Beier, Grace Kluemper, and Claire Linette took home first place team. The Team of Emma Popp, Bodie Lechner, Tyler Fuhrman, and Jessica Berg took home 2nd place team. Both teams advance to state next Saturday In Valparaiso. The following members also placed individually: Maddie Heim 1st place, Grace Kluemper 2nd, Emma Popp 3rd, Jackson Beier 4th, Claire Linette 10th. Congratulations and good luck at State.
Our athletic teams are still going strong. Tennis will compete in Semi-state Saturday and the boy's soccer team will be looking to hoist a sectional trophy as well. The football sectional draw will be Sunday and Volleyball is finishing strong. Both Cross-country teams will be in Sectional action on Saturday as they are looking to add a sectional to the SIAC championship.
On Sunday, the 9th at 2 pm the theater class will be performing Disney Magical Moments. Purchase your tickets in advance using this link Tickets Link. JHS was happy to host Max Darwin, a magician, to speak with our students about success and mental health. Thank you to the Jasper Arts Commission for setting up the speaker. Dr. Nalley will host a Cats of the Round Table luncheon for some of our student of the week winners. Taqueria El Llano will bring the food truck to JHS to prepare the winners' lunch. Thank you for making a difference at school.
StuCo has a fresh set of class bulletin boards up. This batch is one of the best yet. The volleyball team held their breast cancer awareness night on Wednesday and raised money for Dr. Nalley who was battling breast cancer earlier this year. The girls did a great job raising money and awareness. The JAG class also spent some time at local retirement homes hanging out with some of the people living there. They also got up close and personal with Toyota during their field trip. Mrs. Ruxer has a good thing going there.
In the community, the Library and Dubois County Museum have some fall activities planned. Please check out the fliers posted below. Senior Grace Bartley wanted me to share the SWICACC, Southwestern Indiana Child Advocacy Center Coalition, pumpkin patch fundraiser. Details for the event are also below.
Finally, for seniors and their parents, Mrs. Schum has sent out an email with a form to be filled out with a request for the future graduate's name as it should be spelled on their diploma and in the program. Once the names are submitted to Josten's there will be a charge for any corrections. I know it is early but preparations are beginning for graduation.
As fall weather approaches this weekend please enjoy yourselves and get out and support our kids during their activities. It is the community support that truly makes Jasper High School special. Have a great weekend.

SWICACC Pumpkin Patch
Happy Spooky season,
Southwestern Indiana Child Advocacy Center Coalition (SWICACC) is hosting a pumpkin decorating contest by local businesses and community members. Guests may wander through the "pumpkin patch" and enjoy all of the donated, decorated pumpkins.
At the end of the walk, you may vote for your favorite pumpkin. Votes will be given via monetary donations to SWICACC - the winner is the pumpkin that raises the most money! (Pumpkins will also be posted on our Facebook page prior to October 24th. You may also donate through the link provided for each pumpkin.)
Community members/kids may bring their own decorated pumpkin to add to the pumpkin walk and help raise money for SWICACC!
H ot chocolate and Apple Cider will also be available for you to enjoy. All proceeds will go towards the Center.
(Donations not necessary to attend. Perpetrators are not allowed on the premises.)
We would love it if your business would support this event by submitting a Pumpkin for the contest. Pumpkins can be brought to the 505 West 5th Street in Jasper anytime between now and the morning of the 24th. Bring your decorated pumpkin in as early as you can as we will be opening up online voting the weeks prior to the event via social media.

As you can see they also have more tape on their spirit stick. They won the food eating, scavenger hunt, hallway decorating, and two different quizizz games to build that lead. The juniors did take the class display board top prize but didn't acquire many points on our dress up days. They have landed themselves in 3rd place just slightly ahead of the freshmen. The freshmen have made a good showing for our first big spirit event. Our fall pep session will take place on Oct 14 and all classes will have a chance to improve their scores.
