MWISD Tuesday Tech Tip for Teachers
#5 - April 4, 2017
For the past few months I keep hearing about a neat tool called Plickers. Besides having a fun sounding name, what is it? You may recall the class sets of clickers that were popular a number of years ago. They were expensive equipment. They looked like TV remote controls and were designed as a way that students could respond to a quiz or oral question by pressing a button to indicate the answer that they chose. Since then a number of web or app based alternatives have come out but they require students to each have a device of some type.
But then along comes Plickers.......
If you try out Plickers, I would welcome an email to hear how you like it and how it is working out for you. I'd also be interested to visit your class and see how you are making use of it.
The newsletters are archived on the web site linked at the bottom of the page for easy reference (a link to it is also on the main Technology Dept. web site).

What is Plickers?
Plickers is a FREE app that can be used on any IOS or Android operating system (like your SmartPhone). Students will receive a card that has a number on it and the answer choices A, B, C, and D. Teachers can print these free at plickers.com as many times as they need. The teacher will use her smart phone or tablet to scan the class cards and begin to immediately see student responses pop up on the screen. The student simply has to hold the answer choice they choose at the top of their card. This wonderfully simple activity can be used for pre-assessments, checks for understanding, polls or class surveys, tickets out the door, review, etc. Plickers is a great way to infuse technology into your classroom in an engaging way. Questions can be saved in your library. You can log on the web site to work on questions and review results.
So all students do not need a device?
Correct, only the teacher needs to have a technology device.
How are results seen?
It eliminates embarrassment for getting questions wrong while still letting the teacher know who's getting it and who's not. Results can be viewed by the teacher in a few ways and the new score sheet feature lets you monitor student progress and save time grading: color-coded student and question averages make it easy to identify questions to review and spot students who need more help.
