Dear Montgomery High School Class of 2020 and Families,
It has certainly been our heartfelt desire to honor the members of the Senior class and their families as they graduate this spring. Even with the governor and the county making regular adjustments to the regulations due to the pandemic, there will not be an opportunity this school year to come together in-person, as the health and safety directives do not allow for that. At this time, we are not able to determine with confidence when in-person graduation ceremonies will be possible. Instead, this month we will be holding alternate celebrations for the Class of 2020.
Montgomery High continues to work steadily, and with devotion to our soon-to-be graduates, to find new ways to engage end-of-year traditions that will capture the excitement of graduation and provide memories to last a lifetime.
Here are some of those celebration happenings:
Virtual Recognition of Graduation:
- Over the next several weeks, we will be creating a virtual commencement presentation which will be available for viewing when it is complete.

MHS Senior Items Schedule 2020
Below you will find a detailed overview for collecting and distributing school and graduation items. We have designed these procedures with safety in mind, and assigned every senior a time slot by last names.
Thursday, May 21, 2020 (9:00am - 2:00pm): Distribution of Senior Gear and Collection of Books and Athletic Uniforms
When: May 21, 2020
Where: Student Parking Lot Montgomery High School (off Hahman Drive)
Time: 9:00am to 2:00pm by alphabet
● Seniors Return:
- Textbooks
- Musical Instruments
- Athletic Uniforms
- Video Equipment
- Choir Materials
- Borrowed Calculators
● Distribution of:
- Caps & Gowns
- Medallions, Cords, and Stoles (for those who received awards)
- Yearbooks (pending delivery)

Distribution of Diploma Covers and Graduation Gear
When: May 29, 2020
Where: Student Parking Lot Montgomery High School (off Hahman Drive)
Time: 4:00 p.m. -6:00 p.m.
- Diploma covers were shipped to Montgomery High School in October 2019 and have been left in their original packaging, untouched until distribution on 5/21/2020. All staff who handle diploma covers for distribution will be masked and gloved at all times.
Friday, May 29, 2020 (4:00pm - 6:00pm)
Schedule for returns/pick up by alpha: Time slot by Student last name
- 4:00pm - 4:30pm A - D
- 4:30pm - 5:00pm E - L
- 5:00pm - 5:30pm M - R
- 5:30pm - 6:00pm S - Z
The following safety procedures will be in place on both dates:
- All staff will be symptom-free, masked and wearing gloves.
- Social Distancing Guidelines: No students or families are allowed to exit their vehicles. Public Safety will be present to enforce this rule.
- All Caps & Gowns were packaged in plastic bags by Josten’s and will sit in their original packaging, untouched until distribution on 5/21/2020. Staff who handle Caps & Gowns for distribution will be masked and gloved at all times.
- All senior award items, including medallions, cords, and stoles, will sit untouched until distribution on 5/21/2020. All staff who handle senior award items for distribution will be masked and gloved at all times.
- Yearbooks will be available for distribution on 5/212020. (Pending delivery).
Public Safety will be present to ensure that all social distancing guidelines are followed.
Montgomery High School Graduation Ceremony
We are planning tentatively for a summertime graduation ceremony (between June 30 and August 14) and we have two potential plans, depending on the Sonoma County Health Department guideline and regulations. Graduates will sign up via a google form to let us know they plan to attend. The sign-up form will be made available once we have been told we can move forward and we have a confirmed date.
Plan A
If the Health Department Restrictions are lifted and we can hold gatherings of 350+ people, we will hold an appropriate socially distanced graduation ceremony FOR GRADUATES ONLY. This will be live-streamed to families to watch. If allowable based on social restrictions in place at the time, a senior gathering following the graduation ceremony will be held.
Plan B
If the Health Department Restrictions are lifted and we can hold gatherings, we will hold a series of smaller graduations over the course of multiple days. The commencement will be recorded and each senior will have his/her name read, walk across the stage, receive his/her diploma.
