The Manning Weekly Newsletter
December 4, 2020
Manning Community,
I want to thank Ms. Anita Claussen and Mr. Jeff Hageman for their hard work to put together an incredible virtual assembly for our 7th grade students this morning. With a grant from the Mizel Museum and a donation from our PTA, our 7th grade students were able to hear about the story of Jake Adler, a slave laborer in the Holocaust. Listening to the horrific events that occurred during the Holocaust made me reflect and think about choices. We have the choice to love or hate. Seeing the comments of our students in the chat proved that our Manning students choose love. This morning made me once again, proud to be a Manning Mustang!
Stronger Together,
Christian Ramaker

Mobile Mustang Information Corral
Hello, Mobile Mustang Parents and Guardians!
Welcome back! The schedule change in December has gone very well. Most kids were easily in their first class on Monday and we appreciate their effort and your support.
There have been many issues with Google Classroom, Pear Deck, and other tools we use in class. It may be caused partly with the entire district being remote. We cleared our caches this week and restarted our computer and there are still some cases where kids can’t see certain slides presented in class and are waiting a long time to load items in “Classwork”. As Mobile Mustangs, we have become accustomed to change and patience and adjustments.
If your child has done everything they can to solve problems and they still can’t access what they need to, please call the attendance office and your child will be excused for that absence, just as if your child had a dental appointment or just wasn’t feeling well enough to do school. Jeffco’s make up policy is to allow two days to make up learning and assignments for every day missed.
Your child shouldn’t email us if they cannot attend class. They need an adult to call the attendance line for an excused absence.

In conjunction with the reading of Holocaust literature, nonfiction, and The Diary of Young Girl in 7th-grade Language Arts, students will
be attending "virtual assemblies" on: Dec. 11 and Jan. 29.
- December 11, 2020 - Jack Adler, Countering Hate With Respect
o 8:30 AM – 9:15 AM Hybrid A
o 9:30 AM – 10:15 AM Hybrid B
*Mobile Mustangs can attend either assembly.
- January 29, 2021 – Rudi Florian, Propaganda & Personal Responsibility
o 8:30 AM – 9:15 AM Hybrid A
o 9:30 AM – 10:15 AM Hybrid B
*Mobile Mustangs can attend either assembly.
The tradition of having a Holocaust survivor visit The Manning School is provided by a generous grant from the Mizel Museum and our PTA-funded
Enrichment Program. For more information about the assemblies, please visit: https://mizelmuseum.org/program/eyewitness-to-history-a-holocaust-survivor-speaks/
The Manning School of Academic and Arts has a unique relationship with The Mizel Museum in Denver! Impressed by their 7th-grade Language Arts curriculum, which includes a year-long focus on the themes of racism, prejudice and discrimination, The Mizel Museum has covered a majority of the school’s cost for an annual Holocaust Survivor Program. Entitled “Eyewitness to History,” a Holocaust survivor has visited the school once a year for the past 20 years. This year, the pandemic couldn’t stop the school from pursuing a continuance of the program, so a Virtual Assembly was planned. In fact, three Zoom assemblies are planned this year focusing on countering hate, racism and prejudice with respect, and propaganda and personal responsibility. The first assembly by Jack Adler is Friday, Dec. 4 at 8:30 a.m.. According to The Mizel Museum, “Jack Adler witnessed the decay of humanity while enduring life in two ghettos and the horrors of three concentration camps. Though his entire family was murdered by the Nazis, he still has hope for the human race and emphasizes the importance of respecting others. Jack’s take on hatred, racism, bigotry, and misused religious beliefs challenges audiences to analyze their own beliefs and adhere to the principles of the Golden Rule: treat others as we ourselves want to be treated.” The Manning School is honored to continue its relationship with The Mizel Museum, and it thanks its PTA for sponsoring the rest of the costs for this Enrichment Program and others at the school.

Introducing our newest Manning teacher, Ms. Tracy Pearce!
My name is Tracy Pearce, and I am excited be the newest 6th grade Science teacher at Manning.
I am in education because I want to make a difference. It sounds super cheesy, and I get that, but it is 100% the truth. Middle School is the only thing I ever wanted to teach. Which subject I taught, was not a preference. I cared about the child in the age range of middle school students. So, at 25 years old I started teaching middle school students. I have taught 6th grade English-Language Arts, Science, and Math, 7th grade Science and Math, 8th grade Science and Math, Life Skills as an Enrichment class to 6th, 7th, & 8th grades. I also taught 5th grade Social Studies for a bit and 5th grade English-Language Arts for three years. Science is the subject I love teaching the most. So, I am very fortunate to have been teaching 6th grade Science for the last ten years.
Middle School years are most important to me because I feel that this is when students begin to gain their independence and sense of self. I take very seriously the responsibility I take on in a child’s life when I am his/her teacher. Yes, Science is the subject I teach, but teaching respect, responsibility, understanding of others, accountability, and social appropriateness is the driving force of what I do minute to minute with my students. It is the unscripted lessons that happen in real time.
My family is moving to Colorado from Louisiana. I am leaving Louisiana with 20 years in education. I look forward to learning about Colorado from my students and their families.
Best Regards,
Tracy Pearce
Introducing our new Paraprofessional, Ms. Dani Durfee!
I became interested in being a paraprofessional because I want to be able to help kids the way I was helped while attending school. I think with a little support and reassurance students can realize their potential and that anything is possible.
I hope to help students grow and love school and get the support they need to understand the work and projects given. I also hope to stay at Manning for a long time and have a big impact on the students and the way they learn. I look forward to helping the teachers and other staff members.
Thank you to these parents for their kindness to our staff:
- Thank you Petz family for the lovely gift basket given to our staff! It was enjoyed by all.
- Thank you Jaworsky family for the gift of coffee for the front office staff!

As we all adjust, again, you may find the need for some calm at home. Below are resources from Jeffco and me. Taking moments for ourselves can be done alone, as a family, over zoom, whatever. This allows our minds to decompress, even if only briefly.
Healthy Learning at Home Resources
This is a great resource for families! Find the PDF version here, which is also linked to the Healthy Schools website and the Jeffco Virtual Calm Room.
