Ms. Collodora's News
Here's what's hip-hop and happening in our room! Week 34
This week we practiced pr and br beginning blends.
Reading and Writing
Loyalty, fairness and promise were some very important words that we talked a lot about this week. When we are being good citizens, we want to make sure we are showing these qualities. We were able to think of many examples of being loyal and fair, as well as promises we can make. We took our test on Friday and we’ll start our next theme on animal habitats on Monday!
We also learned more about some people who were good citizens, including Eleanor Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln and Rosa Parks. We read a story called “I Am Rosa Parks”and learned about how Rosa stood up for what she believed in and showed fairness. We then did our own writing on how we show fairness and made it into a bus!
Our toolbox is filling up, as we learn more and more strategies to help us practice our facts. Doubles, doubles plus 1, doubles plus 2 and making 10 are a few of the strategies we practiced (and re-learned) this week. As I have told the kids, we introduce all the strategies so that they can see that there are multiple different ways to solve problems. FIND THE ONE THAT WORKS BEST! I encourage the kiddos to use the one that they are most comfortable with, but I will also show them the strategies we are working on. Keep practicing! We started subtraction facts to 18 on Friday!
