last newsletter for 2021
East Gore School 10th December 2021
Principal's Report
Tena Koutou, Talofa, Namaste, Hello and Greetings
It is hard to believe that this is the last newsletter of what has been another challenging year. To be living in a global pandemic and part of the world's history that generations will talk about in the future is an unreal feeling. I have learnt that we need to "expect the unexpected" as each day can offer up a new challenge for any one of us. Next year we will be working within the new "traffic light system" and we will let you know what that looks like in the new year. With all that said, we have made it to the end of 2021 and we are all still smiling, enjoying the sunshine and looking forward to the summer break.
Teachers have completed all assessments this term and written reports are going home with all students today. Staff enjoy looking at the progress all students have made this year and we hope you are proud of your child's efforts with their learning throughout all of 2021. Overall the results for all students is very pleasing within Literacy (Reading and Writing) and Mathematics. This is a reflection of the engaging programmes that the teachers are putting together and the hard mahi your child has done within these subjects areas.
On Monday we are saying farewell to our Year 6 students. Unfortunately we are unable to have all parents and whanau enjoy this celebration in person. Therefore this celebration will be recorded and uploaded to our Facebook page in the afternoon. Fingers crossed next year we will be able to have our usual farewell with everyone in attendance... we definitely miss seeing everyone in our school.
Thank you to everyone for your ongoing support of East Gore School in 2021. As a school and community we have definitely achieved a lot in 2021 and I know that we will continue to achieve great things in 2022.
On behalf of the staff and Board of Trustees, we wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year. Have a lovely break and we will see you all in 2022.
Meri Kirihimete (Merry Christmas).

Welcome
End of Year Assembly
However, we are going to hold our final school assembly at school on our field where we will only be able to invite our Year 6 students families along (keeping to our bubbles). We will record this assembly for all our other families to enjoy after this time. This assembly will be held on Monday 13 December at 12:00pm, and will enjoy a free schoolwide sausage sizzle after the event.
The sausage sizzles raised $670 for the junior playground upgrade-thanks for your support

Illness
The onset of winter illness is starting to affect our students. Please keep students home if the are unwell and help slow the spread of these coughs and colds. We have also had a vomiting bug doing the rounds, remember that a student must be 48 hours clear of any vomiting or diarrhoea before returning to school.
Reporting an Absence
If a student is away from school for any reason we need to know. Please text, phone or use the school app to report an absence. We need a reason for absence please, this a legal Ministry of Education requirement so please don't be offended if we ask for this.
Cellphones at School
We are noticing a few students are bringing cellphones to school. They do not need them at school because we have numerous devices for the students to complete school work on. If your child needs to bring a cellphone because of an after school activity, they must hand it in at the office. At the end of the day they can collect it from Mrs Nicholson.
Lunches in School
Unfortunately the daily fruit we were enjoying last term is not been supplied this term, we would ask parents to please send morning tea and something for healthy snack each day - ie: piece of fruit/cheese/nuts/yogurt.
Koha Kai are suppling a lovely range of lunches that our students enjoying this term - mac cheese is a definite hit!
Staying in Touch
Please remember to update any changes in your contact details to the school office, its very important that we have you latest details in case of an emergency. Thank you.
Spare Clothes
We are running short of spare clothes at school. If you child has come home in school clothing could it please be returned asap. A spare set of clothes in the school bag is a good idea this time of year.
Breakfast Club
Thank you to Emma, Phillip and the team from Grace Church for covering Breakfast club for the remainder of this year.
Your support is amazing and truly appreciated.
