Principal Newsletter

From the Desk of Mrs. Riley

August 17, 2019

Dear Parents,

I am excited to welcome you to the 2019-2020 school year! Hopefully, the summer has provided you with memorable opportunities to spend quality time with family and friends and we now move forward with the promise of another exciting school year! It is an honor and privilege to serve as the principal of such a wonderful school and family!

The faculty and staff of Our Lady of Good Counsel School are committed to providing academic excellence and pathways to Christ in a safe and welcoming school environment. The following staff changes have taken place over the summer. We say farewell to Ms. Lauren Creamer, Mr. Evan Mascione, and Mrs. Lisa Esbensen. We thank them for their service and wish them well in their new endeavors. We launch the new school year with a very talented and dedicated teaching staff. New to our team this year are Mrs. Kelly Shultz as our new Pre-K 4 teacher, Dr. Nicole McPhillips and Mrs. Diane Hediger in Kindergarten, Ms. Brieann Katzianer in Grade 7 teaching middle school ELA , Mrs. Cristina McDermott in Grade 8 teaching middle school Science, Mrs. Kristen Dempsey as our Honors ELA teacher, and Mrs. Kelsey Harp as our middle school Math/Honors Math teacher. Please join me in welcoming them to the OLGC community!

We have spent the summer working hard to strengthen and enrich our academic program and fortify our identity as a Catholic school. There are several new academic enhancements this year. Among these are a new Math program in Grades 5-8 allowing for more continuity across grade levels and student driven learning. A new Science program is now in place for Grades K to 2, along with a STEM curriculum for all grade levels. This summer our teachers spent time receiving training in the Literacy Studio, an ELA curriculum rich in literature through the use of individual trade books that students will be able to analyze more deeply focusing on the student as learner, reader, and writer.

Our Lady of Good Counsel School will open its doors for students in Grades 1-8 on Tuesday, August 27th. School begins promptly at 8:15 AM each day. Students may begin arriving at 7:45 AM. Upon arrival, students will be greeted by their teachers and welcomed to their classrooms. Our CARES Program will begin on Tuesday, August 27th.

Every parent will be emailed my newsletter every Thursday. If you are not receiving the email, please notify the School Office. You can always access all newsletters on our school website which I encourage you to visit regularly along with your child’s teacher’s classroom webpage. School supply lists, along with all important forms and flyers, can be found on the school website.

Please enjoy these remaining days of summer as we eagerly anticipate another fulfilling year! Let us ask God to steady us for the journey of a new school year and give us peace knowing that we never walk alone. In these final days of preparation, let us take the time to thank Him for all the graces he has bestowed on us. On behalf of Father Suskey, the faculty, and staff, I want to thank you for choosing Catholic education at Our Lady of Good Counsel School for your family.

God’s Peace,

Mrs. Barbara Riley
