The Ottomon Times
#HelloFromTheOtterSide
May 16, 2022
Whoosh! This year has flown by!
Our parent survey results let us know that you are wanting to be more involved with your child's learning. We are overjoyed that Covid restrictions have loosened enough this year for us to have parent volunteers on campus and on field trips. We look forward to next year when the PTA and staff will be creating many opportunities for you to be involved. It's been a while since we've had "Room Parents" and other helpers in the classroom. This will be an exciting time to reconnect and work collaboratively!
I want to send a special shout out to our 5th graders who will be promoting soon to middle school. I am so impressed with this group of students and their work ethic, perseverance, kindness, compassion, and acceptance of one another's uniqueness. I can't wait to hear each of them speak at promotion!
Enjoy these last few weeks...they will go by quickly! We have several fun events planned for students to celebrate all of their success and effort. I have been truly blessed to become part of the Otter family this year, and I will continue to grow and learn alongside all of you in order to better serve our students.
Warmly,
Carrie Manriquez, Principal
Sharp Increase in Covid Cases
1) Self-screen for symptoms daily using the symptom checker below
2) Do NOT send a sick child to school. Whether or not they have Covid, we don't want to be passing colds and flus to others
3) If your child has been out sick (or is sent home by our office) they must receive a negative test result from a doctor or a San Juan site in order to return. Alternatively, you may provide a doctor note stating there is an alternate diagnosis. We are happy to test here at school.
4) We have home test kits available in our office. Feel free to come in and take a kit (each kit includes two tests) so that you can test at home if your student is feeling sick. Although these tests cannot be used as your "return-to-school" test, it could save you a trip if you get a positive result.
Reminder - 5th Grade Memory Book Dedications due Wednesday, May 18
After School Childcare
- Snack time
- Homework support
- Fun games and art activities
- Social-emotional teaching
- ....and an occasional random glow dance party!
Please visit the following website to apply for this program. Bridges usually has a waiting list, so don't delay! https://www.sanjuan.edu/bridgesafterschool

PTA Needs Your Talents!
We are still recruiting for PTA officers for next year. We have two certain vacancies: Secretary and Vice President. You may also run for President and Treasurer against the current President and Treasurer who are willing to serve another year. Please see the flyer below to nominate yourself or a friend (make sure they have agreed!). You may email the PTA or print and return the flyer to us (you should have received a printed copy a couple weeks ago).
If you're interested in having an active role in our events, keep an eye on your email for more information, or reach out to us at ottomonptaov@gmail.com.

Confirmed - New Start Times -PLEASE PROVIDE FEEDBACK
https://forms.gle/ARtZYN8irBQBYa7Z9
We realize a change like this impacts families very differently. For some, an earlier start time is wonderful as you can drop off and get to work earlier. For others, especially those with students at multiple school sites, this causes a hardship. We will work diligently to help solve all issues a potential change in start time may create for you.
Have you moved or changed phone numbers recently?
Please take a few minutes to update your student’s emergency contacts to make sure the office can reach someone if you’re not available. Contacts must be updated at least once per year. Learn more here.
Login to the Parent Portal with your pin and password. Then click "Re-enroll" at the top of the main screen. This process works best on a desktop or laptop computer. www.sanjuan.edu/parentportal
