Phonemic Awareness-To hear, identify and manipulate individual sounds (phonemes) in a word.
Alphabetic Principle-Knowing that words are composed of letters that represent sounds and being able to use letter/sound correspondence to read or spell an unknown word.
Fluency-The ability to accurately and automatically read words with no conscious attention or effort so that focus is on comprehension.
Vocabulary-The words we have to know in order to effectively communicate in listening, speaking, reading and writing.
Comprehension-The student's focus is on the meaning of the story.
