From the desk of Mrs. Anderson
We had a tremendous turn out at conferences this past Wednesday! It is wonderful to see our families and staff working together in preparing our students to be “Tomorrow Ready!”
This week we are highlighting our Coding Club under the leadership of Megan Wilson, one of our 4th grade teachers. At this time, her club consists of six 4th grade students. Students utilize coding apps on the iPad as well as doing unplugged activities to set a solid foundation in coding terminology and concepts through curriculum created by Apple. So far this year, students have learned what coding is and discussed the ways that people use coding each day. Students have learned how to write and use commands to complete desired tasks. The students have also worked on finding and correcting errors in these commands. This club takes the students to the next level in digital learning!
Each year, any 6th grade student who is interested in becoming a Principal’s Gold Ambassador must go through an application process. This process includes responding to leadership questions as well as asking teachers for recommendations. I am thrilled to announce this year’s PGA members! Congratulations to the following students!

4-H Genealogy Project
Julie Ferguson, Decatur Township 4-H Director, is offering a unique opportunity to all Decatur Township students (although this is a 4-H project, you do not have to be a 4-H member to participate). On October 18th, from 10:00 am to noon, students are invited to the Decatur Township Library Branch to learn about researching their genealogy. A person with several years of experience in genealogy will teach the students how to use Ancestry.com and will donate paperwork, notebooks, and materials to help the students begin research on their genealogy. Students are asked to bring their own tablet, but four laptop computers will be available to use/share for those without a tablet. Students below grade 3 should have a parent/guardian to help navigate the websites. Questions may be directed to Julie Ferguson at jaferg98@yahoo.com.
Volunteers Needed
The Gold Academy will be selling popcorn each Friday of the month. Students can bring in 50¢ on Friday mornings and their popcorn will be delivered to their classrooms. The sales will begin on Friday, August 9th. This is a fundraising project to help support the needs of our school!
We also need volunteers to help with this activity. If you are interested you will need to fill out a Volunteer Registration Form. Thank you so much for your participation and help with our school functions.
