DATA SPOTLIGHT!!!!
Truancy and Chronic Absenteeism
Research show that poor attendance can impact student performance:
- poor attendance in pre-school can predict absenteeism in the later grades
- children who miss to many days in Kindergarten and 1st grade can have trouble mastering reading by the end of the 3rd
- by middle and high school, chronic absences is the leading warning indicator for predicting dropouts
1 in 10 kids in kindergarten and 1st grade are chronically absent
Did you know....
2 Absences Per Month X 9 Months of School = Less Likely to Graduate from High School
What are ways that we as School Counselors can assist with preventing absences?
