In the Know with the New Farnsworth SRO
By: Officer Todd Danen
First, I am very excited for the opportunity to get to work with from what I see, an outstanding group of students and staff.
I would like to take the time to tell you a little about myself. I have been a police officer with the Sheboygan Police Department (SPD) for 14 years. The last 8 years, I have worked night shift as a K9 Unit.
I am originally from the Green Bay area. Go Packers! In my previous career, I spent it as a Captain on a fire department in Outagamie County, Wisconsin. Although I liked being an EMT/Firefighter, I felt the need to go into the area of law enforcement. So, I went back to school for criminal justice, was offered a police officer position with SPD. The rest is history and that is how I ended up in Sheboygan!
When I am not at work, I like to spend time with my two teenage boys; Alec (15), Payton (14) and my wife, Mary. We spend our free time up north where we like to ride our ATV’s, go boating, fishing and hunting.
One of my biggest passions is coaching baseball. I have been a youth coach for over 11 years. Last year, I was asked to be the bench coach for the Howards Grove High School. A bench coach keeps stats and helps motivate players during the game.
I am really looking forward to getting to know everyone.
Student Council Raises Money for Food Pantry
Student council organized a Coin War that was held during December. Students at Farnsworth raised over $2,050 to help fund a food pantry. The food pantry is new to FMS and will help needy families.
Volunteering at the Humane Society
By: Abby Wetzel
As you hear the barking of dogs you step through the doors to the Sheboygan County Humane Society (SCHS). Now, I volunteer at the Humane Society, so I may be a little bias, but I think that SCHS is a great place to be. When I volunteer, I do cat cuddling. Basically, I take cats out of their kennels, and play with them for fifteen minutes. Who wouldn’t want to do that! Other volunteer jobs include cat cage cleaning, dog kennel washing, dog walking and cat brush and dish washing. Though these jobs may not sound as fun, once you see all of the little kittens and cute puppies, it will be worth it.
If you are interested in volunteering, check out this website http://myschs.com/volunteer/. You will have to go to an orientation where you will learn about all of the volunteer opportunities they have. After you tell them your schedule, they will tell you where their greatest needs are. Please consider donating some of your time to this great organization.

Movie Review: Wonder
Wonder tells the incredibly heartwarming and inspiring story of August Pullman. A boy with facial differences who enters fifth grade, attending a mainstream elementary school for the first time. In this story you follow Auggie and his struggles to fit in, you also learn in this story that there are always two sides to a story, and you learn more than just your perspective on things. To warn you this is a very emotional movie and book so make sure to bring the tissues!
Netflix Review: The Flash
Do you like superheroes? Do you like The Flash? Then this show is for you! This show is full of action for any of you who like action shows or movies.
After waking up from a coma, forensics expert Barry Allen harnesses brand new powers which in turn, gives him super speed. He uses these powers to protect Central City and later becomes The Flash. He fights villains such as The Reverse Flash and Killer Frost. I’ve been watching this show since before the end of 6th grade and I will always be a fan of it. This show is amazing for anyone who is a fan of this DC Comics character. There are currently 3 seasons on Netflix.
WIN Students Took a Field Trip
By: Jenna Resheske
On December 1st, 2017, students in Advanced WIN gathered in room 194 at the beginning of the school day. Gathered were 6th,7th and 8th graders ready to present their projects. They had been preparing their projects for weeks and were finally ready. Conversation spread like wildfire in room 194 on that exciting morning. The teachers in the room called for silence and explained to the students of all ages that they were representing Farnsworth and they needed to have appropriate behaviors.
They first headed to Wilson school. They then presented in their 4th and 5th grade classrooms. One group presented on the aerodynamics of a paper plane and and one did an experiment on making instant ice. Another did a presentation of reptiles. There were many other interesting presentations as well.
After the groups finished at Wilson, they needed to eat. The next stop was McDonalds. Once they had entered the building there was a flurry of confusion and voices. Order numbers being shouted from everywhere. The students regrouped and prepared to go to the next school.
Jackson Elementary School was next. The Jackson students listened to the presenters politely. More topics presented included Grimm’s Fairy Tales, Chocolate, and Paper Armor. After presenting the Farnsworth students gathered in the library and reflected on their day. It was a common feeling that all enjoyed the day and felt their presentations were well received by the 4th and 5th graders.
Book Review: Rhett and Link’s Book of Mythicality
By: Paige Benish
“Internetainers" Rhett & Link met in first grade when their teacher made them miss recess for writing profanity on their desks, and they have been best friends ever since. Today, their daily YouTube talk show, Good Mythical Morning, is the most-watched daily talk show on the Internet, and nearly 12 million subscribers tune in to see the guys broadcast brainy trivia, wild experiments, and hilarious banter (not to mention the occasional cereal bath). Now the award-winning comedians are finally bringing their "Mythical" world to the printed page in their first book.
This book tells about their real-life experiences for the past and what they have learned from them. While this book teaches you how to handle certain situations and teaches life morals, it will also make you laugh, whether it being how to successfully fake laugh or just at how stupid they were when they were kids. You will be sure to have a great time reading this book, and, well, if you don’t like it, sorry to say you are a robot and your “parents” lied to you.

Random Foods You Should Really Try
By: Paige Benish
If you have already tried these foods, good for you… (WARNING-PUNS INTENDED)
1. Bastilla Chicken Bastilla is Morocco's famous rendition of a savory pie, and it simply doesn't get better than this. Traditionally pigeons were the birds of choice, but here chicken and cow udder is cooked with saffron, ginger, pepper and cinnamon, then layered with in crispy warqa pastry with an herb-laden omelet and and fried almonds scented with orange flower water. An utterly amazing fusion of flavors and textures. I have never tried this myself, but from the look of it, it looks moooving to try! Although I am not a huge fan of the sound of cow udder in my food…
2. Nebraskan style Chicken in a Waffle Bowl
Look no feather, there’s no better pair than chicken and waffles, right? Right. Not only do these battered chicken tenders come in waffle bowl, but they’re drizzled with a honey hot sauce and topped with Kool-aid pickles. There’s also side of waffle fries, just in case you’ve got a little extra room. This dish will be sure to wet one’s beak!
3. Stroopwafels
This sweet snack is a waffle cookie made from two thin layers of batter with a sticky syrup filling in the middle. They can be purchased in packages at nearly every grocery store and bakery in the Netherlands, as well as freshly made at street stands at markets and festivals. This one sounds like pure goodness, and I would put up a batter for a stroopwafel, so lego my stroopwafel! Would you want a stroopwafel a waffle much?
