Greek architecture is known for it's columns. There are three types of columns: Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian. Other types of Greek art includes pottery, sculptures, and paintings. Every city-state had a temple that was dedicated to a specific god. They went there to to worship and make sacrifices. Some leaders like Pericles and Alexander the Great spread the Greek architecture throughout Europe.

We see Greek influence in architecture today in important buildings. The White House, Capitol Building, Supreme Court and the Lincoln Memorial all have columns that show Greek influence.

The Greeks were lead by a direct democracy, which means everyone could vote and have a says. The leaders were all white free males over the age 18. Some leaders were Alexander The Great and Archimedes Greeks changed leaders every single year. A lottery was the way a leader was chosen. Slavery was very common in Greek culture. Some important wars were the war of Troy and Sparta and the battle of Marathon.

We have some of the same things we have now in our government that the Greeks did. Like we have to be 18 to vote. We also have a democracy. We also have term limits.

Greek athletes were free male citizen who were unmarried. People who could watch the sport be played were all unmarried women, free male citizens, government officials, gods and goddesses. Greek sports included running, long jump, shot put, javelin, boxing, equestrian events, horse races and chariot races. All athletes were treated with great respect and showered with gifts. The reason athletes played were to honor Zeus the king of gods.

The ways Greek sports affects are lives today is we still have The Olympics. We also have some of the same sports like boxing, wresting, discus, ect.

Myths were created to explain why weather and things happened to the Earth. Some of the most important mythological heroes of ancient Greece are Hercules, Jackson, Atalanta and Theseus. Here are some gods and goddess, Zeus king of goods and god of lightening, Hades god of the underworld, Pasadena god of water, Hera goddess of motherhood, Demeter goddess of crops, Athena goddess s smarts, Hermes god of speed, Aphrodite goddess of love, Artemis god of hunting and Ares god of war. Homer and Aesop wrote mythology. When Greeks they went to the underworld in Elysium the Asphodel files.

We still see mythology today. We tell myths such as the movies Hercules and Percy Jackson. We also still study mythology.

Greek philosophy is very important. Some very important Greek philosophers were Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle. Some philosophy books are The Plato Book and Aristotle Physics. Philosophers tried to answer questions about science. Many Greeks were scared of philosophers because they put questions in their head.

Today we still use Greek philosophy today. We still use some of the skills. We still study geometry. Some doctors still use the same kind of medicines.
