December Newsletter
Cottonwood School
Greetings Cottonwood Families
The month of November sure flew by with our celebrations of Veteran’s Day and the Thanksgiving break. We hope that everyone had an opportunity to disconnect from our online environment and connect with all of the loved ones in your lives. Our recent break was a reminder to reflect on all that we have and are thankful for. It gave me a moment to truly appreciate my family as well as our wonderful school community. I couldn’t be more thankful for serving an amazing and dedicated staff, student group, and family unit!
We have three weeks remaining in our first semester and want all of our Cubs and Cougars to finish strong. Let’s focus on being our best each and every single day so that we can all - win the day!

Character Corner
For the month of December our school will emphasize the character trait of "Dependability." Dependability is fulfilling what I consented to do, even if it means unexpected sacrifice. It can also be defined as being trustworthy to do what I say I will. Good intentions will not make you dependable. Think through the process; gather the information, supplies, and expertise needed; and get started. Take initiative to work through the difficulties you encounter along the way. Although none of us would have imagined last school year that we would be in a virtual learning format, it will be a great application of showing dependability by fulfilling our commitment to academic excellence and positive character!
We would love to see our students in action demonstrating our character trait! Please e-mail any pictures of your children to Mrs. Niaves (aniaves@hemetusd.org) demonstrating dependability in school, around the house or the community so that we can showcase their efforts!
Here is an additional parent resource on our character trait of the month:
Weekly Habits for Success
It is our goal at Cottonwood School to ensure that our students have the tools and habits to be successful in whatever they choose to pursue. Our staff have been emphasizing "Weekly Habits for Success" with our students to help fill their "tool belt" with specific skills. You can help by having a discussion on these habits and how they translate to success in the real world. Below are the habits that were emphasized in the month of November:
Applying Past Knowledge to New Situations
Thinking and Communicating with Clarity and Precision
Gathering Data Through All Senses
Creating, Imagining, and Innovating
