Main Components
Blood has four main parts.
- Plasma- the liquid part of blood that carries nutrients and hormones throughout the body. It makes up 55% of the blood.
- Red Blood Cells- most numerous type of blood cell, carry Oxygen and Carbon Dioxide gases which bind to Hemoglobin proteins. They make up about 45% of blood.
- White Blood Cells- fight off disease and foreign invaders.
- Platelets- cell fragments that assist in blood clotting.
