Alder Weekly Update
June 13, 2021
Message from the Principal
Hello Students, Parents, and Staff!
The final week at Alder was a busy one- filled with fun and final activities to close the school year.
Atlanticare is hosting FREE Summer Meals for children and teens at the Atlanticare Healthplex at 1401 Atlantic Avenue in Atlantic City. This starts June 29th on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:30 am- 11:30 pm. Families must register at SURVEYMONKEY.COM/R/ACSUMMER2021. No ID is required.
On Monday, June 14th, we held our annual 8th Grade Picnic. Volleyball, basketball, other games, as well as yearbook signing and lunch were all part of a great time together for our 8th graders. Our Parents’ Club purchased pizzas for lunch and ice cream followed for dessert. Parents’ Club is also giving each 8th grader a $5.00 Wawa card to purchase a special treat there. Students enjoyed time together outside with music. After this school year, it was great to have our virtual and in person students together to enjoy socialization. It was a great way to close the year and make our 8th graders feel special.
Also, we have quite a number of summer programs in place for credit completion and for academic concerns. We are going to be looking at schedules for the new year in the next few weeks. Please make us aware of any concerns that you may have with your child. We will be sending a message out about summer school and credit completion; as well as other important information.
With Mrs. Pistoia, our Reading Coach, we are encouraging SUMMER reading. It is a great way to keep your mind moving and explore topics of interest; as well as pleasure reading. Below are some links to assist you. We are extremely excited to announce that this summer we will have required summer reading for all middle school students. Research shows that reading over the summer reduces summer slide and promotes academic success throughout the school year. Please see our summer reading website located on the school’s main page for assignments, book suggestions and book lists. All questions can be forwarded to Kelly Pistoia pistoiak@eht.k12.nj.us

We said farewell to our 8th graders with a tradition at Alder- The 8th Grade Clap Out. All of the students at Alder lined up along the front entrance and toward the bus lot. Music played in the front and bagpipes played in the back, compliments of Gavin MacNeill. The procession began with our retirees: Karen Cunningham, Bill LaPenz, Elyse McElevey, and Candice Marshall leading our 8th graders out of Alder! Check out the pictures of our students, who expressed happiness at the close of the year, but sadness for it’s ending too!
It has been a school year like no other and we feel so fortunate to have had an opportunity to teach and know your child. Have a great summer!
