Student Intent Forms CAME to your email--Did you complete yours?

Caregivers should have received an email for each of their Fox students (K-4th grade only) with a link to a personalized Intent to Return Form. You should have filled out the form for EACH student no later than April 28th. We are still missing Approx. 80 responses. If you did not get an individualized form, please let Mrs. Jacobs know. A big thank you to those folks who already filled out the form!!.

Completing this form is crucial as it helps us to plan and prepare for next school year. You will let us know if your child will be returning to Fox, going to another school (and where) as well as verifying the addresses we have on file so you receive important mailings/info.

Teacher/Staff Appreciation is May 8-12th

Please show our entire staff your appreciation for all of the things they do for our students every day!

Here are several ways you and your student can show appreciation for the great teachers at Fox that make our school so special:

Thank you notes (Monday) - from parent or student, handwritten, typed, video, or art.

Sweet Teacher (Tuesday) - bring your teacher a sweet treat!

Flowers (Wednesday) - real, paper, or hand drawn.

An Apple a Day (Thursday) - bring your teacher a healthy snack to keep them energized.

Card or craft (Friday) - bring joy with a handmade card or craft.

*Note that days/activities are only suggestions, the main thing is to say thank you!

SSF SPIRIT WEEK is THIS WEEK! Get those T-shirts out and ready to go!

Monday: Wear the Turquoise " Team Fox-Stronger Together" shirt

Tuesday: Wear the BLACK "What does a FOx Say?" shirt

Wednesday: Wear the RED "Be the Change Kindness" Shirt

Thursday: Wear the '21-22 SSF shirt

Friday: Wear THIS YEAR'S SSF Shirt!

If you don't have the shirt, wear that COLOR so you can join in on the fun!

How do you get a Strawberry Street Festival T-shirt?

They will be on sale at the Fan Arts Stroll on Thursday in the children's Area and at the SSF Festival!

They cost $15. Get one for everyone in your family! Wear it proudly! Help to advertise for the Strawberry Street Festival!

SSF Raffle Tickets

A HUGE Part of the Strawberry Street Festival is the RAFFLE!

For as little as $5 for 10 tickets (or chances, depending on how you look at it!), you could win a prize! This year's raffle prizes are amazing:

***** Spring Break '24 at a beautiful Beach House(Sleeps 14!) in Corolla, NC

*****Apple ipad (10th Generation)

*****Apple Airpods--(3rd Generation)

What's the catch? We need you and your kiddos to sell the raffle tickets. It's easier than ever this year-------we have a QR code (see below) where a person will scan and go to "Buy Raffle Tickets". The buyer can (and SHOULD) even select your student's name for credit. STUDENTS and their CLASS can earn prizes for selling the most raffle tickets: Who is going to be Principal for the Day? Assistant Principal for the Day? Who's class will earn a PIZZA PARTY? A POPSICLE PARTY?

Additionally, all students who sell 20 tickets or more will be entered into a grade level raffle to receive a SSF Wristband which entitles them to do EVERYTHING for FREE during the festival + a free meal! There will be 1 wristband given away per grade level.

Paper copies of the QR code will be come home this past Friday--cut them apart and hand them out, or----take a picture of the flier below----ask your family and neighbors to support your student and OUR school! We have extra paper copies in the office if you need it!

The Strawberry Street Festival is Coming!

Saturday, May 13 from 12-4

Did you know that Fox PTA has been hosting the Strawberry Street Festival for over 40 years?

This festival started as a sidewalk sale on Strawberry Street, but has turned into a FUN, memory making festival for our community.

The SSF will be held at Clark Springs for the 2nd time. There will be inflatables, food, games, and fun that you simply don't want to miss---mark your calendars now!

We need EVERYONE to volunteer ----just 1 hour of your time---to make our event memorable for our kiddos. Please sign up to help HERE!

SOL Testing

See the schedule below for SOL Testing for 3rd, 4th, 5th graders. Please note what days your student will be testing. ALL students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade will take the SOL tests for their grade level. If students are absent for some reason on the day of their SOL test, they will take a makeup test.

Nutz for Reading Day at Flying Squirrels Baseball Game-May 17

EVERY Fox student will receive a free baseball game ticket! All students must be accompanied by an adult. Adults can buy additional game tickets for the rest of the family in advance on the Flying Squirrels website (https://www.milb.com/richmond/tickets/single-game-tickets) or at the gate on game day. We strongly recommend you purchase additional tickets ahead of time as several area schools will be attending Reading Day and there is a chance the game will sell out. We will send student tickets home on May 15 inside the interim report card envelope!

Playground and School Safety

Please help us to keep your children safe! We are seeing an increase in playground injuries where students are falling. In many instances it is due to student footwear. Please keep in mind that students should always wear footwear with a STRAP in the back (no flops/slides).

We ALL love our Crocs---they come in fabulous colors, they are really comfortable etc. But honestly, they are causing a lot of students to trip an fall when they are running at recess. Please consider having your students wear sneakers daily--students do go outside to recess daily! We know there are still going to be falls (there are a TON of roots sticking up on the playground), but let's keep everyone safe.

It's warm outside!!! The A/C is on inside!

As the weather warms up this spring and we head into the summer months, please keep in mind our dress code. Student clothing should not be distracting and all private body parts, and underwear should be covered.

Honestly, it is actually rather chilly in most rooms on most days due to the A/C. You may want to send in a sweatshirt with your child (labeled with their name!)

RPS will begin preschool and Kindergarten enrollment on March 1. Enrollment is initiated online at https://www.rvaschools.net/students-families/enroll/k-12-enrollment.

I strongly encourage all families with Rising Kindergarteners to register EARLY. This will help us to plan for the appropriate number of Kindergaten classrooms to accommodate the number of kindergarteners.

Fox Fire Fund Expenditures

At the November Town Hall, it was requested that we share the Expenditures to date from the Fox Fire Fund. The expenditures below have helped staff purchase instructional materials and furniture items needed at First Baptist Church last year, as well as here at Clark Springs. Some examples include: AV carts, door mats, folding chairs for the multi purpose room, book cases, flexible seating, bins, tubs, storage, leveled readers, math manipulatives, etc. We are SO thankful for our community support!

We will continue to purchases things as the need arises, but also hold some funding out for when we move into our newly renovated Fox building on 2300 Hanover as we will need items for that location as well.

Please find the expenditure Activity Detail HERE FYI!

COVID + ?

If your child tests positive for Covid, please let Nurse Hall know! Students do need to quarantine for 5 days from symptom onset and then be masked at school for an additional 5 days.

If you need an at home Covid Test when your child is feeling ill, please let the nurse know! We have them available for our students!!!

Nurse Hall can be reached via email at: thall@rvaschools.net

or 804-780-6259.

Parent Handbook

Please read the Parent Handbook! It is full of important procedures/policies/info that is helpful for families!

Have you turned in your form to your teacher indicating you have read it????

HOMEWORK: EVERY STUDENT SHOULD READ/BE READ TO FOR 20 MINUTES EVERY NIGHT!

Every Fox student has HOMEWORK EVERY day. ALL students should read or be read to for 20 minutes daily! If you need some books to read at home, let your child's teacher, our school counselor, CIS worker know. We are HAPPY to have your child pick out some books to take home. Also, check out and use the "Reading Library" that is located at the front of the school.

Research shows that READING EVERY EVENING is the one thing that WILL SET YOUR CHILD UP FOR ACADEMIC SUCCESS.

3rd, 4th, 5th grade students will have up to an additional 30 minutes of homework as well (math practice, comprehension practice, studying etc). Teachers/grade levels will communicate homework to their class.

2022-23 PTA BUDGET POSTED

The proposed PTA budget for the fiscal year starting July 1, 2022 and ending June 30, 2023 is posted at the following location for review of the general membership: https://foxpta2300.memberhub.com/w/executiveboard

Note that this budget will be voted on by members of the PTA during the Back to School Night General Membership Meeting on September 13, 2022.

WHY JOIN THE PTA?

The PTA’s mission is to realize every child’s potential by empowering families and communities to advocate for all children. We hope that all Fox families will support this mission by joining the PTA. Becoming a member creating community connections, supports our students and teachers, and amplifies members’ voices. Help build the village that supports your child!

PTA ACTIVITY FEE

Again this year, we are asking each student to pay a voluntary $15 per student PTA Activity Fee in addition to PTA Dues and any fees that teachers are collecting for their classrooms. We are excited to return to field trips and live assemblies this year which we can support through the PTA, and this fee will go towards the cost of events and programs. We feel strongly that these initiatives benefit our children and help us to ensure that our school mission is realized. This voluntary fee will assist us in being able to provide meaningful support for our students throughout the school year. Pay PTA Activity Fee HERE.

If you are able, please consider donating additional money towards your child’s activity fee, if you are able, to help support all of the children in our school.
