Tiger Tales
Hemmenway Elementary - September 2022 Edition
A Note From the Principal
We had a wonderful first two weeks of school! We continue to thank you for your support and patience, as morning arrival and afternoon dismissal is worked out between transportation and a solid, efficient, and safe car rider process. I know it can be frustrating, but please know that all decisions and procedures are created based on student safety. It will get quicker each day. If your child is a car-rider, we ask that you work with your child to memorize their car rider number. If your child is a bus-rider, please make sure they know their bus number. If they have a sibling, remind them to look for their sibling when they get on the bus. The buddy system works well so that students do not miss the bus.
Lunch drop offs started this past week, and we ask that you ensure you drop off your child’s lunch, if you choose to, at least 10 minutes before their lunch begins. We have staff that will come at the beginning of each lunch to collect any lunch drop offs and bring them to the cafeteria. If you bring your child a lunch after their lunch time, there is no guarantee they will receive it, as those staff members that collected the lunches are now monitoring students at lunch. Just a reminder that all students have free breakfast and lunch this school year here at Hemmenway.
Finally, attendance is very important. We kindly ask that you do not check out your child for anything other than an emergency, an illness or a doctor’s appointment. The time your child misses adds up and can result in academic loss. We want all of our tigers to be successful, so we encourage instructional time to be maximized, which is definitely a partnership with our families. Please remember, if your child is not at school at 10:30 a.m., they are counted absent.
It takes all of us working together to ensure your student has the very best school experience here at Hemmenway! Thank you for doing all you can to support this endeavor!
Sincerely,
Dr. Silliman
