The sun is shining and the tennis racquets are out. Does this mean summer has finally arrived? Mr Biggs has been focussing on tennis this week in his games lessons.

Staffing update

We are delighted that Mr Richardson has returned to work this week after being poorly. Thank you to all parents who have been understanding during this unsettled period.

We are sad to inform you that Mrs Sharon Pepper our School Business Manager is leaving us in a couple of weeks. We wish her every success in her exciting new venture. Mrs Pepper will be replaced by Mrs Tessa Rich, who currently works in a similar role at Holy Trinity Infants School, Ripon.

SATS week

Next week is SATS week for our Year 6 children. To ensure they get off to a calm and relaxed start the children are invited into school from 8.30am onwards where they can enjoy breakfast with their friends. Please help us by encouraging your children to enjoy their weekend as normal and get plenty of rest. Above anything else, we don't want the children to be worried or stressed by these tests.

A copy of the recent presentation we did is below in case any parents / carers want to refresh themselves of the relevant information.

SATS - A guide for parents / carers

Academy status

We have been approached over the last couple of weeks by parents regarding the governments plans to make all schools an academy by 2022. This is an objective of the government but not written in law therefore it may not happen. There are currently no plans for our school to become an academy, any future decisions on this will be made in the best interests of our children and the community. To ensure that the school is as well prepared as possible, the Governors have set up a working party to gather all the facts regarding Academies and explore all options.

Parent Council

Thank you to the following parents who have put themselves forward to be part of our new Parent Council:

Nursery - Sharon Fisher, Suzanne Hutchinson

Reception - Ruth Griffiths

Year 1 - Vacancy

Year 2 - Vacancy

Year 3 - Vacancy

Year 4 - Katie Scott

Year 5 - Katy O’Malley

Year 6 - Vacancy

Governor representative - Tina Salden

As you will see we still have some vacancies for representatives in certain year groups. We are planning on holding a working party meeting on 22nd June at 9.15am, to establish how the Parent Council will operate and decide on some priorities for it to focus on. If you would like to join the meeting just to find out more about it, please speak to Sharon Pepper.

Breakfast Natters

The first session was held on Thursday morning and a small number of people went along and enjoyed drinks and delicious breakfast pastries sat outside in the beautiful sunshine! The next session will be on Thursday 9th June at 9am straight after drop off. The venue is Thorpe Prebend House which for those who don't know is opposite the Cathedral Hall. It has a lovely enclosed outdoor space ideal for young children to play whilst their parent / carers enjoy a chat and refreshments. It would be lovely if we could welcome more people to join us and so please come along if you can and spread the word to friends and neighbours.

Summer Fayre- "Beside the Seaside"

One week to go ..........

The Mayor has kindly agreed to open our Fayre at 12 noon and we would like it to begin with all our Nursery and Reception children in a fancy dress parade with a seaside or beach theme. There will be a prize for the best outfit so dig out all those Summer clothes and fingers crossed the weather holds!

We are still looking for help to organise the fayre as follows:

Preparations - a group of parents will meet on Wednesday morning at 9am to continue with arrangements. Please join them if you are free.

Event Volunteers - can you help set up on the day and / or run a stall? If so please let Tina or Katy know as soon as possible.

Donations:

Please continue to bring in Teddy bears for the tombola

Good quality tombola prizes and wrapped sweets for game prizes.

Many thanks for your contributions so far.

Cake Stall - to accompany the BBQ there will be an "Afternoon Tea" cake stall. If anyone can donate scones and traditional afternoon tea cakes, please send them into school on Friday 13th May or bring them on the day.

Finally, do you or anyone you know require a stall at the fayre? For £5 we will provide a table top stall to sell craft items, books or anything else. If you are interested please collect a letter from the school office or speak to Tina or Katy.

THANK YOU for all you support to date.
